Commentary By: Gordon King
Dealing with the world these days is becoming much more difficult for followers of Christ, yet it is something that we must do. We are to shine our light into the darkness as the darkness seeks to overtake what is righteous and holy.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.“
The darkness can be strong and powerful, yet the light shall not be overcome by it! Jesus Christ is the light, He is the life and the light shining brightly in us and through us.
We must remember just who we are as true believers in Jesus Christ, we are children of the Most High God of the universe! We are children of the light! And as such we have the power within us to overcome the darkness where-ever we may encounter it.
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.“
We must overcome evil with good, as what is good is from God.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.“
Goodness is from God and God is love, therefore goodness is also from love. Love wins, it is powerful.
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
We have been given power from above, the power to overcome the darkness, to withstand the wiles of the devil, the power to witness the gospel of Christ!
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
1 Corinthians 4:20
“For the kingdom of God [is] not in word, but in power.”
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
“And what [is] the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,”
2 Corinthians 12:9
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
God has given us His power, it is not of ourselves but of God, not to perform wicked and evil acts, but to overcome darkness with light, the power to love, and the power to perform God’s will on earth as it is in heaven!
Words are cheap when spoken by man, it is not through our words that we demonstrate the goodness of God, but it is rather through our actions. The power of God lies not in what we say but in how we act, it is how we treat other people, how we treat fellow believers and also how we treat the unsaved! It is what is in our hearts that really matters to God, not what we say that we think. God knows the heart and the intentions of the heart. Our actions must represent the intentions of the heart, in love, power, and a sound mind.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
