Commentary By: Gordon King
Life has a way of catching us off guard when we least expect it. It’s filled with both ups and downs, while many of the downs can bring us to our knees in anguish and desperation! They can be life threatening, and they can cause us to lose faith and hope. They can distract us from the truth, and they can change our outlook and perspective on life. It’s all a matter of how we look at things, on how we deal with them.
The world was not made to be a sinful place, nor was it made for us to experience downfalls, pain, and suffering. It was made with the purpose of communing with our Creator, of literally walking with God on a daily basis! Ever since the downfall of Adam and Eve the world has changed, we now suffer from disease, evil, violence, pain, suffering, and death.
While we cannot change the ways of the world, we can change our outcome, we can change how we view life. We can have a perspective of life which is good, righteous, and holy. We can have eternal life. Not only can we have eternal life but we can have a better life now!
Many of us suffer from physical ailments, many from mental ailments, from pain and disability, and many more from disasters, economic hardship, and dysfunctional relationships. While these things can bring us down, they can destroy our life as it could be, we must change our perspective on life itself!
If we are saved, if we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, then and only then can we truly have peace! And even though we may suffer in this life, we can still receive peace and comfort from the Lord.
I cannot say that I have experienced physical pain and suffering for a very long time, however I have experienced physical pain and suffering for extended periods of time, and I know how it can be and it’s not fun! I have experienced economic hardship, dysfunctional and broken relationships, physical and mental ailments, and many disasters in my life. Yet through it all God was with me! I made it, I came through it all, perhaps with a few battle scars, but none the less I did, wiser, stronger, and more Christ-like in the end.
My point is not that our life will be perfect, but that we can rest assured that our Father in heaven has our best interests at heart. That even though we may suffer in this life, our God is for us not against us. He has the power to heal, the power to restore, and the power to bring about change!
We know that the Apostle Paul suffered from a physical ailment, of what we are not sure, but he continued on until the end and God was with Him! The good Lord worked through Paul to bring about change, to change the world! And almost two thousand years later the Christian church is larger than it has ever been in history! Millions of lives have been changed and saved.
God has the power to heal us, yet it is according to His will and our faith, in His time and His way. Sometimes it’s not about us, but what God can do through us!
The main point is that we should accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, He is our Creator and provides all things. We should be walking with God daily and we can, just as we were meant to. And if we stay focused on God and not our trials then He will see us through. If we allow Him to perform His will in our lives then things will work out much better for us.
I don’t have all of the answers nor do I claim to. I’m not exactly sure why God doesn’t heal everyone who asks Him, nor am I sure why He allows us to suffer at times. But I do know this, that He causes all things to work for the good of those who love Him, all who are called according to His purpose! That means all believers, all of us who suffer from trials and tribulations, from pain and suffering, God will work all of it for our good!
Our suffering in this life at times seems unbearable, yet I believe with all of my heart that one day God will make it right. That He will restore to us what has been lost, that He will recompense us for the damages done to us, in fact even more than we could ever imagine!
Walk with God daily, seek Him first in all things, seek His face, give Him thanks, know that He is with you always and is perfecting you for His glorious appearing! For one day soon we shall be caught up to meet Him in the air!
Pray without ceasing, for the prayers of the saints are pleasing to God!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
