Commentary By: Gordon King
Bible prophecy, a hot topic these days, yet one which is almost completely ignored in most churches these days! Why is that?! Why do most churches in America ignore what one-third of the bible tells us will happen in future events? Events which Jesus Christ Himself told us would happen, events that Jesus told us to be aware of and watching for!
How can the church be ready for what is coming upon this world if we are not told about it? If church leaders do not warn the flock of the current events which are related to bible prophecy, then many will be deceived, misled, and possibly misguided down the wrong path!
It’s a crying shame that the church in the Western world seems oblivious to what is now taking place in the world, and not only that but not doing the job of warning the followers of Christ. I understand that the role of the church is to evangelize the world, to make disciples, and to encourage the flock, and I believe that the church as a whole is doing a good job of it. However, is it not written in scripture that we are to watching and ready for future events spoken of in the bible?!
How can the church function as a teacher of the bible when it ignores one-third of it, or at least prophecy yet to be fulfilled or that is now being fulfilled?! Are our church leaders not to be as watchmen on the wall, warning the flock of what is happening around them and what is to befall the world? I believe that it is their responsibility as leaders of the Christian faith.
What does the bible say about watchmen who fail to warn about coming destruction?
“Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman, 3 when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’ “
Watching and warning is not only about coming destruction, it is about the closeness of Christ’s return.
“Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.”
Watchmen are to be watching for the signs of the times and to warn others of what is happening for their safety as well as warning others of just how close we are to the return of Christ to the world!
“Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.“
As children of God we are all to be watching, so in essence we are all called to watchmen! The New Testament tells us throughout to be watching for all kinds of signs, to be watching for lies and deception, for wars and rumors of wars, for the moral decline of society, for false Christs and antichrists. We are warned and we are to be warning others who may not be aware.
Studying bible prophecy is very important to God, why else would He give a special blessing to those who read and study the book of Revelation?!
“Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.“
The book of Revelation is about Jesus as is the rest of the bible, however it is much more than that, it is a book telling us what will soon take place, so that we would know! So that we would not be ignorant of the times and what is soon coming upon the world.
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place.“
There are many, many believers who hunger for the truth, they hunger for the whole truth, they hunger for bible prophecy and just how it relates to the world around us! If this were not so then there would not be so many believers teaching and preaching about it on the radio, the internet, and books. Bible prophecy conference are being held throughout the nation of America, and they are filled to capacity!
The truth is that many believers want the truth, they want the whole truth, not just pieces of it. There are of course those who seem content with only what the churches teach, and this is a shame! Let us not forsake the entire word of God, nor let us fail to seek it out. These are treacherous times that we are living in and we must be made aware, ready, and watching at all times!
I for one have a problem with churches not teaching directly from the word of God, of not teaching bible prophecy as it now relates to the world around us, and of not having weekly altar calls the way churches used to! Whatever happened to churches in America who teach the whole truth, who are not afraid to speak up about the ills of the world, and who are not afraid to call people to the altar for salvation on a regular basis? I am certain that there are some churches who do these things, yet they are few and far between!
Many churches get so wrapped up in so many things that I believe they forget all that they should be doing for the Lord. And when the truth is suppressed the flock suffers, when the world around us takes hold then we can be led down the wrong path. Don’t think for a minute that the world has not infiltrated the church, it most definitely has!
Let us all pray for our churches in the Western world, that they grow a backbone and speak all of the truth of God’s word. That they do not forsake bible prophecy and how it now relates to the world around us. That they warn us of the coming disasters before they strike, that they inform us all of just how close we are to the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! That they have regular altar calls for the salvation of the lost!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
