Commentary By: Gordon King
Reminiscent of the past, the days upon us are becoming darker and darker as they were during the days of Noah, evil was in their hearts continually and wickedness abounded. It was so bad that God was sorry that He had made man!
“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.“
And so it will be during the last days, men’s hearts will be continually evil and will grieve the heart of God who created them!
“For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.“
People will be living their lives as they normally do before the coming of Christ, however from the old testament we also read that their hearts were continually evil! These are the people of the world now, believing that all is well, that what they do and how they think is normal and good, when in truth it is rebellion against God Almighty!
When people turn their backs on God, when they live a life of rebellion against God, then they will be drawn further and further into deception and lies, believing the lies to be the truth. This is how it is now, those not believing the truth are being deceived into believing lies, headed further and further in the wrong direction!
2 Timothy 3:13
“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.“
Satan will blind the minds of those not believing so that they would not see the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
2 Corinthians 4:3-4
“But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.“
Therefore, we must always focus our thoughts and minds on Jesus Christ and on the things of heaven above, in order that we ourselves are not deceived!
1 Timothy 4:1-2
“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,“
Do you believe in what scripture tells us to be the truth? Do you believe all of it? Or do you only believe parts of it? Do you believe some of it only to be stories, allegorical, or do you believe it to be the truth? Do you take scripture and mold it to fit your lifestyle or do you mold your lifestyle to fit how scripture tells us to live, how God tells us to live?
As for me, I take all of scripture to be God breathed, that all of it is the truth, and that none of it is allegorical. With that being said, of course there are stories in the bible, parables given in order for us to understand scripture. The bible is also full of symbols given to represent certain things, and we must further study scripture to get true understanding, that along with the wisdom and guidance from the Holy Spirit! We must rightly divide the word of God!
These are not times to be taken lightly, nor are they times to be separated from Jesus Christ! The signs are all around us, we are living in the last days my friends! But we are also a sign of the goodness of God Almighty, the light in the darkness.
While we are here on earth in our earthly bodies we must produce the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. It is not by our own workings, but by the workings of the Holy Spirit within us! By our faith the fruit of the Spirit is produced, and by our faith we produce good works for the Lord! Good works are a sign of our faith, and without faith we cannot please God. Without good works our faith is dead!
“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
Believe in God and have faith, use your faith by trusting in God and performing His will on earth, not your own will. Act out your faith by performing good works, trusting in God’s will, and knowing that He is with you to help carry them out. God knows best and His will is always better than our own!
Do not fear what is coming upon the world, take joy in knowing that the return of our loving Lord and Savior is at hand! Take comfort in knowing that He is with us, and that one day soon we shall forever be with the Lord!
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
