Commentary By: Gordon King
Stop and listen. Do you hear anything?
Are we too busy with our daily lives that we cannot hear God speaking to us?! Are we so overwhelmed by the events of the day that we don’t take the time to just listen?
Are we so consumed with our own lives that we often just don’t give God the time to speak to us, or at least give ourselves the time to hear Him speak?
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
The world is a busy place, a place filled with commotion and turmoil, with work, chores, and family. How often do we go into a quiet place in order to just sit and listen to what God has to say?
In order to hear from God we must listen to God, and in order for that to happen then we must be listening to Him and not the world around us. Jesus often went off by Himself into the wilderness or up on a mountain top in order to hear His Father in heaven. Shouldn’t we be doing the same?
“So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.“
In order for the Holy Spirit to lead us we must be listening to what He is telling us. Many believers say that they never hear from God, but are they listening?
Listening requires practice and it requires patience. We need to shut out the distractions and focus on God. God is speaking to us but are we listening?! God speaks to us in many ways, some of them are through other people, in our spirit and mind, and through His word.
“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
The good Lord speaks to us in many ways, He spoke to Moses from a burning bush, He spoke to the masses and His disciples in the flesh, and He speaks to us through His Spirit.
The point is God does speak to us, but many times we just don’t listen to Him!
Take the time and give it to the Lord. Listen for and to His voice. It’s not that He isn’t speaking, it’s that we are not listening!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
