Commentary By: Gordon King
Believe in Me and you will be saved! This is the message of Jesus Christ to the world.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.“
God came into this world not to condemn it but to save it! Jesus Christ, fully man yet also fully God.
So just what does it mean to believe? Does it merely mean to believe that Jesus was God? There are many in the world today who believe, yet they are not saved, nor do they consider themselves to be Christians. On the other hand, there are many in the world today who believe this yet have not accepted Christ as their Savior, and they believe that they are saved.
“You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!“
Even the demons believe that Jesus Christ is God, yet they are not saved! So what does it really mean to believe and be saved?
Belief is not merely believing, but repenting of ones sins and accepting Christ as your Savior. It means to submit yourself and your life to God Almighty. This is being a true believer of Jesus Christ.
I am a believer in Jesus Christ, yet I am much more than that, I am a follower of Christ! Following Christ means to live for Christ, to die to ones self and put on Christ. It means to commune with God daily, to seek God first in all things, and to listen to God’s voice. It means to listen to God’s will and do your best to perform it. It is not merely being saved and being a Christian, it is living the life of a born again child of God!
Being a believer can mean being saved and still living like the world lives, but being a follower is following in the footsteps of Christ. I often use the term believer, and I mean it as a born again child of God.
Not all who call themselves believers actually obey the will of God. True believers are saved, they have Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, yet not all live the way God intends them to.
If we are truly saved, then we are believers, but we should also be followers! Following Christ is loving Him with all of your heart, mind, and soul. It means to seek Him first in all things. It means depending upon Him to meet all of our needs. And it means to live a life according to the will of God.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
