Commentary By: Gordon King
Blessings, peace, and goodwill to all. Let not your heart be troubled, nor fear not what the world can do, but fear the One who has the power to cast into the lake of fire!
“And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!“
What is man that we should fear him? Can he destroy the soul? Does he have the power to send us into everlasting destruction? No, indeed not! Nor does the evil one, Satan!
It is He who created us in His image, the One who has the power to kill, to destroy the soul in everlasting hell!
Should we fear God in the sense of being afraid, or should we fear the Lord with reverence and awe? Well, I guess that all depends upon whom you serve.
And there will be those who say that we should not preach about these things, that we should not tell the lost that without Christ as their Lord and Savior that they will in fact be cast into the lake of fire! That we are spreading fear and guilt, and that we should only preach about the love of God.
Well, I say that if we do not preach the truth, the whole truth, then we are not being loving as God intended us to be. For without Christ as our Savior, we will spend eternity in hell, that’s a very long time! And shouldn’t the lost know what the future holds without Jesus Christ as their Lord? I say yes indeed!
There is a time to live and there is a time to die, we are all appointed a time to die, and then the judgment. Is this not true? Doesn’t God tell us about everlasting hell? Didn’t Jesus Himself preach to us about hell and the lake of fire? Of course He did! So why shouldn’t we?
Are we to preach the whole truth of the word of God, or should we cherry pick what to preach?
There are many believers out there who think that they should only tell unbelievers that God loves them. Well, I say that if this is all we tell them, then we are omitting much of what scripture tells us to be the truth!
If you don’t believe that God would send people to hell, that He is only a God who would send people to heaven, then what God do you believe in? The God that I follow tells me that without Him as our Lord and Savior then He will send us into the lake of fire! We cannot make God into something that He is not, nor can we pick and choose just who God is, if we do then we are making up our own God.
The fact is that God is a good God, He is holy, righteous, and pure, and as such He cannot allow unbelievers who do not choose to follow Him into heaven, nor can He be unjust. If we do not accept Him as our Savior, then we are full of sin which has not been paid for. We are saying that we do not need God, nor do we want Him in our lives.
The fact is that there are only two places to go after this physical death, either heaven or hell, that’s it, no in-between, no other choices. By not choosing God, Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, then we are choosing hell, whether you know it or not, whether you believe it or not. God doesn’t make the choice, we do!
Many people believe that they are good people, and that they will get into heaven. Yet, they do not love God! Could you imagine what heaven would be like for them? A place which is dedicated to God, by God, and for God. A place where everyone will be worshiping and serving God for eternity. If these people don’t want to serve God now, why would they for eternity?!
Heaven is a place reserved for those who love God, who wish to serve God now, and forever! On the other hand, hell is a place without God, void of anything of God. It is dark, hot, miserable, painful, uncomfortable, and torturous, just the opposite of heaven. It is a place where both people and demons will spend eternity with the choice they have made to rebel against God.
God loves us all, and He wishes for no one to perish. His will is for all to come to repentance, and accept Him as their Lord and Savior! Yet, He has also given us a free will, a will to make decisions for ourselves. Without this free will we would be nothing more than robots, programmed to love God and follow His will, not out of the love in our hearts, but out of preconditioned information from birth. This isn’t what God wants, nor is it His will. He wants us to love Him because He loves us! He wants us to commune with Him because we love Him and want to know Him.
Let us not deceive ourselves into believing that hell is not for real, of course it is, it’s just as real as heaven. And all of us, every last one of us has the free will to choose to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. There will be no excuse at the judgment, no rationale for making the wrong choice. Nor will there be a last call or any way of redeeming yourself once you have died! Once you’re dead you’re dead, the choice has been made. Think about it. One life to live, one choice to make, make it the right one!
God is the creator of all life, of the universe, that includes heaven and hell. Why do some go to heaven and others go to hell? Why did God make hell for the fallen angels and then decide to cast unbelievers there also? I don’t know, but I suppose one day you can ask Him yourself. The point is He does! Do you really want to wait until you die to find out?!
Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today, what you should do today! Make the right decision and allow God into your heart, into your life. You may not have another tomorrow!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
