“Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience“
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
Commentary By: Gordon King
The world, full of wise men, wise according to the world’s standards. But, what is more important and meaningful, the wisdom of men or the wisdom of God?
1 Corinthians 3:18-20
‘Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” ‘
Understanding comes from God, understanding knowledge is how we know the truth, this is wisdom.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Fools do not know God nor do they desire to. Instead they relish in their own understanding and worldly wisdom.
“A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.”
“Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.”
The foolish man is a man who is unsaved, he mocks at sin and the things of God.
“A scoffer seeks wisdom and does not find it,
But knowledge is easy to him who understands.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man,
When you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way,
But the folly of fools is deceit.
9 Fools mock at sin,
But among the upright there is favor.“
“How long, O God, is the foe to scoff? Is the enemy to revile your name forever?“
The wise man turns away from evil in the world, but the fool runs to it!
“One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless.”
Be careful speaking in the presence of a fools, for they will despise and laugh at you, they will tear you to pieces like a ravenous dog.
“Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words.”
“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.“
The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord, and all those who practice it have a good understanding. A person cannot be saved without first fearing the Lord, this is wisdom! Wisdom is knowledge from God, understanding is knowing what the knowledge means and how to use it.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!”
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
