Fighting against Evil Spirits!

In God we trust copy

Commentary By:  Gordon King

We fight not against flesh and blood, but against evil spirits and demonic activity.  The world around us is falling deeper into a cycle of evil, where no man or woman is immune from its grip!  Sin is abounding rapidly around the world, and we must all face it in our daily lives.

Ephesians 6:12

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

While we know that we fight against such evil entities in the world, we also know that many people are possessed by these spirits, and many are also led by them as well.  The world is not a perfect place, nor are its inhabitants.

1 John 5:19

“We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”

We must come to grips with these facts, that evil spirits and demonic powers are real, and they have the power to unleash havoc, destruction, and mayhem.  They are led by the father of all lies, Satan himself!  For he has come not to bring love and peace, but to steal, kill, and destroy!

We are all fighting battles in our lives, battles against sin, against the desires of the flesh, and against evil forces which cannot be seen.  Even Christians face these battles, we are not immune from their evil intentions.  We struggle with them on a daily basis, and we must turn to God daily in our fight against the enemy, against the sin in the world.  We are weak but Christ is strong, and His power is made perfect in our weakness.  As believers in Jesus Christ, we are made strong through the power of Christ!

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

‘But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.’

We have the Holy Spirit living within us, each and every believer in Jesus Christ.  Christ has already overcome the world, and as children of God we have also overcome!

1 John 4:4

“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

Although we have overcome the evil in the world, we must continue to fight a battle, to engage the enemy while living here on earth.  This evil enemy will try to overcome us, to bring us down, to divide us, and to conquer us.  They will try to break up our marriages, to destroy our friendships, and break down our families.  They will try to take away what God has given us, to cause us harm, and to weaken our faith.

The enemy knows that we have already overcome through the blood of Jesus, yet, they will try to tell us that we haven’t!  They will place doubt and fear in our minds, in the hope that either we don’t know that we have overcome, or that we will not feel worthy enough to remain in God’s good graces!  These are both lies, straight from the pit of hell!

The enemy knows the flesh, they know that we are weak, and they will take advantage of that fact.  This is why it is so vitally important for all believers to know just who you are in Christ.  That we have the power of God inside of us, and that we have already overcome the world!

Hebrews 2:14-16

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 16 For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham.

Jesus died not only as a propitiation for our sins, but to overcome death and to destroy the devil!  God gives aid to the seed of Abraham, that includes all believers in Jesus Christ!  For those gentiles who believe have been adopted by Christ and grafted into God’s family.  God not only loves us, but He is here to help us!

As believers we have overcome the world, we have overcome death!  We have the power of Christ living within us, and we have Christ himself fighting for us.  Do not fear nor be dismayed, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world!

Fight the good fight by leaning on Christ, seek Him first in all things, ask Him to help you and to guide you.  Pray against the enemy, pray, pray, pray!  Commune with the Lord on a daily basis and you will overcome the evils in the world.  Believe what God has told us in His word, believe and put your faith in His promises to us!

Psalm 34:7

“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Revelation 1:5

“And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood”

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

1 Peter 2:9-10

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Thank you Gordon!
Very timely post because the attacks are coming thick and fast these days but the Lord turns it to good training and I am learning to recognise them for what they are more often now. I force my way out from under those attacks, they usually aim to cause me to feel discouraged and under condemnation for sins that are already repented of and therefore forgiven! I fight back and remind myself and the devil by praising and giving thanks to God for The Blood of Jesus, His mercy, forgiveness and love and then the devil flees…..he just can’t hang around…. he hates the praise of Jesus our God!

I pray for you often asking that our Lord God will protect you, bless you and keep you safe under the shadow of His wings Gordon. You are often in the front line and will therefore be a target for Satanic attacks of every kind. Praise your way out of them….. do not be discouraged Gordon…. The Lord is with you ALWAYS even unto the end of the Earth!

    • Thank you Christine!

I appreciate and need all of the prayers I can get!

At times the enemy will tell us things which are just not true, like we are not worthy of God’s love, and that the sins we have committed in the past have forever separated us from God. These are both lies from Satan and his minions.

      God bless!

  2. Amen! Gordon.
God who love us so very much. There is no fear for those who walk with the Lord.
“Nothing therefore can come between us and the love of Christ, even if we are troubled or worried, or being persecuted, or lacking food or clothes, or being threatened or even attacked…. These are the trials through which we triumph, by the power of Him who loved us.” Rom.8:35, 37

“Glory be to Him who can keep you from falling and bring you safe to His glorious presence, innocent and happy. To God, the only God, who saves us through Jesus Christ our Lord, be the glory, majesty, authority and power, which He had before time began, now and for ever. Amen.” Jude 24,25
    God bless. Marana tha!

  3. Some of my emails seem to end up in the junk box when it should be in the inbox it like Satan is trying to hide the information from me he does not like me forwarding information to other contacts.

  4. Gordon, along the lines of this post, my heart has been feeling very heavy as of late, with the challenges I deal with on a daily bases. At times I find myself perplexed and bewildered (human, that we are) I’ve felt alone. Yet knowing I’m not, spiritually. But the spirit of doubt does creep in, telling me it’s too much to handle, you can’t do it.
With that in mind, a sadness overwhelmed me this past Good Friday, as I was driving to visit my brother. I was looking up in prayer and notice in front of me, the clouds shaping into a dragon and it’s head becoming bigger, then I saw a hand gripping and shutting its mouth. I was on a freeway/the parkway here in the east and couldn’t stop to take a picture. But clear was this picture in front of me, all smiles and an overwhelming assurance comes over me that words cannot express, cheered me, releasing me from this sadness. I was able to shake the doubt off of me and continue on with a better frame of mind and spirit. And if this wasn’t enough, yesterday, (the day we celebrate the Lord conquering death), again traveling to see family, I see in the skies clouds shaping into angels, with a dragon in their mist. This time the dragon disappears, and again I feel a calmness in my spirit.

I believe the Lord gave me these signs to let me know no matter what dragons creep up in your life, He has conquered them. To be of good cheer and continue on. Always looking up!
And never doubt the power of prayer. Never give up! Praise Him, for giving us assurances at the times we need it most.
Assurances comes in many shapes (no pun intended), and in many forms, we must be open to receive them, for all good things come from Him who loves us.

I felt a need to tell you of my experience, hoping it helps someone dealing with their own dragons, not to give up. In God we trust! Pray your feeling better.
    God bless. Maranatha!

    • Thanks for sharing with us SweetJava!

Isn’t it funny how the Lord often communicates with us in our time of need?! I have also seen things in the clouds above, leading me to believe that they are signs from heaven.

      God bless!
