Commentary By: Gordon King
Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve, the world has never been the same. Sin introduced into the world has caused many problems in life, and nothing ever stays the same. This is not how it was originally made or intended to be.
Have you ever taken notice that the things in this world don’t last? That everything decays, falls apart, and becomes old and useless overtime?
Take for instance a barn, when new it stands tall, looks beautiful, and shelters animals and farm equipment from the elements.
But over time the weather takes its toll, and the barn loses its paint, the boards begin to split and crack, the shingles come apart, and the old barn just doesn’t do it’s job like it did when it was new. And when given enough time, the old barn will eventually collapse!
Can’t we say the same thing for everything in this life? Doesn’t everything around us just seem to decay until one day it’s unable to fulfill the function that it was originally intended for?
We can prolong the life and the usefulness of these things by putting in some time and energy. Yet, at some point in time they will still become useless!
There are universal laws in the world, in this universe, which govern life as we know it. One such law tells us that things will go from good to bad, from new to old, from organized to chaotic! That law is known as “The Law of Entropy”.
I am in no way a physics expert, nor do I claim to be. But, these things are not too difficult to understand, even for myself! What I am about to explain is very basic, and I am doing so not to teach about physics, but in order to make a point.
First, we need to know the first two laws of thermodynamics, 1) The law of conservation of energy, and 2) the law of entropy.
Definitions of the two laws Googled:
In physics, the law of conservation of energy states that the total energy of an isolated system remains constant—it is said to be conserved over time. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it transforms from one form to another.
Following the second law of thermodynamics, entropy of an isolated system always increases. The difference between an isolated system and closed system is that heat may not flow to and from an isolated system, but heat flow to and from a closed system is possible.
Definition of Entropy:
1.Physicsa thermodynamic quantity representing the unavailability of a system’s thermal energy for conversion into mechanical work, often interpreted as the degree of disorder or randomness in the system.
2.lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.
So what the heck does all of this mean and why should it even matter?! Gee-Whiz!
Well, first knowing that entropy means “lack of order” or “gradual decline in order”, we see that all things will eventually lead to disorder. The first law of thermodynamics tells us that energy is always there, it cannot be destroyed or created (not by man), however it can be changed or transferred. The second law tells us that energy always goes from order to disorder, not from order to a higher level of order. The degree of disorder or randomness will increase, not decrease and become more orderly!
This is why it makes no sense to me how anyone, especially scientists, could believe in evolution. You cannot get order from disorder, nor intelligence from non-intelligence! It’s against the universal law of entropy.
Everything in this world will go from being organized to disorganized, from being orderly to disorderly, these are universal laws. However, we can slow the progression of disorder if we infuse more energy into the system.
For example, if the red barn is losing it’s paint, then we can always repaint it! If the shingles are falling off, then we can re-shingle the roof. We can continue to do this for a time, until eventually we will have built a brand new barn.
However, if you place an apple on the table eventually it will rot. If you place the apple in the refrigerator then you can slow the progression of decay, but only for a short time!
Even in our relationships with each other, if we just let them sit without putting any effort into them, they will eventually decay and die! Isn’t this so? Relationships take time and effort for them to grow and flourish.
In our relationship with God, we can let it just sit and stagnate, and if we do then the relationship will decay, just as in any relationship. However, if we add some energy or life to it, then it will begin to grow and thrive! We cannot just sit back and expect for our walk with God to remain the same if we do nothing. It will either decay or get better, depending upon what we do. Our salvation will always be, yet our relationship will dwindle and will not do what it was meant to.
Our Christian life should also be one of doing, of acting, and of living! If we just sit back and do nothing, then it will decay, and we will fall away.
God tells us that if we only have faith, but do not act in faith, then your faith is dead!
“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.“
We must not only believe, but act out in our beliefs, perform the good works which God called you to in faith. Do the things which the Holy Spirit leads you to do in faith, for by faith our works are justified in the eyes of God. What good does it do us to tell someone how to live if we do not first show them? And how are we to say that we are followers of Christ, if we merely say it? We need to live out our faith through our good works my friends! This is Christianity, this is truly loving God. By allowing Him to live in us and work through us, by dying to self, and living through Him!
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
“So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.”
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,”
The world is falling apart, it is decaying, why? Because of the evil and the sin in the world. Sin is destructive, it is a destroyer of life, a force which only seeks to destroy and kill! It wasn’t always so, before the fall of man this wasn’t the case. Satan knows these universal laws, and he uses them to his advantage. Without the proper input, without the good energy put into the world, the evil will continue to overtake the good.
It is the believers in Jesus Christ, performing good works in the world which are keeping evil at bay. The Holy Spirit of God living within believers is what is keeping the world from utter darkness! God uses His children to shine a light into the world. He uses us to perform His will on earth.
This is one of the reasons why I so strongly believe in the pre-Tribulation rapture of the church. I believe that “He” which the bible refers to as “He who now restrains” in 2 Thessalonians 2 is the church filled with the Holy Spirit.
2 Thessalonians 2:7-8
“For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.”
It’s after the church is removed from the earth that the Antichrist will be revealed. We are the church, we are the ones who are restraining the evil in the world, it is the Holy Spirit living within us! The lawless one, or the Antichrist cannot do the job that he needs to do if we are still alive and living in this world!
This is why it is so vitally important for us as a church, as the body of Christ, to perform good works on earth at this very time! For if we don’t, then the evil will overcome before it’s time. The evil energy in this world has an advantage, as everything will fall apart eventually! However, God is in control of all things, and there will come a time when sin no longer has dominion over this world! Amen.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
