Overcoming the Trials and Tribulations!

Jesus Saves Lives picture in clouds

Commentary By:  Gordon King

May the peace and comfort of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you, may He guide and protect you each and every day!  Amen.

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, although we may be in the middle of a trial or tribulation, and the darkness around us may seem to be closing in on us, let us not forget that God is not only with us, He is within us as well!

Jesus Christ, given the name at birth of Emmanuel, meaning God with us!

How many of us believers in Jesus Christ actually believe this?  Do we merely believe in God and our salvation, or do we actually believe that God is with us?!  Are we walking with God each day, speaking to Him not only as our Savior, but also as our Friend, and as our Father?

Galatians 2:20

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Please dear friends, let us know that He is actually with us!  That He loves us so much and has already forgiven us of all of our sins!  That’s not to say that we should keep on sinning, on the contrary, sinning distances us in our relationship with God.

The fruit that we bear is not of us my friends, but of the Holy Spirit who dwells inside of us, it is the fruit of the Spirit!

Galatians 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

Jesus Christ lives in us and through us dear brothers and sisters!  He is ours, and we are His.  And just as Christ said that He and the Father are one, it is also so with us and Christ, we are one with Christ!

1 Corinthians 6:17

But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

We are one spirit with God Almighty!   Just how great is that!  And if we are one spirit with Christ, then we should also be walking in the spirit and not the flesh.  Some may ask just what does it mean to walk in the spirit?  Well, basically it means to be holy and pure, as much as we can, to avoid the things of the flesh, and live a godly life.   We must let the Holy Spirit within us be our guide and lead us into righteousness.

Romans 8:14

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”

Walking in the spirit means being close to God, worshiping God, praying to God, and coming to God first in all things.  It is a life devoted to the Lord, living as Jesus lived, seeking the things of God.  We can choose to either walk in the flesh or walk in the spirit, but we cannot do both at the same time.  Walking in the flesh is of the world, it seeks the things that the world seeks, such as selfishness, pride, lust, arrogance, lack of self-control, and has a sinful nature.

Let us all treat one another with love and respect, having mercy and forgiveness upon one another.  For it is written, do unto others as you would have them do unto you!

Luke 6:31

And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

As we are to love the people in the world, we should most definitely treat our brothers and sisters in Christ with the utmost respect, after-all, we are all one with Christ!  Amen.  And yet at times I experience some brothers and sisters in Christ treating me with disrespect and even condemnation!  Is this how Jesus would want us to treat each other?  Are we not his prized possessions?!

I cannot figure out the ways of the world, they just don’t make any sense to me.  On the other hand, I cannot figure out why fellow believers in Christ would treat other believers badly.  This makes even less sense to me!  And yet it happens over and over again.

I don’t know about you, but I want to hear Jesus Christ say to me: Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.

Trials, tribulations, pain and suffering, all things which we will all endure during this life time.

Romans 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose

God uses these things for our good, to cleanse us, to purify us, and to make us more Christ-like.  When we go through such difficulties in life we become more and more like God, more holy and more righteous, as long as we are walking in the spirit.  We become more sensitive to the things of God, are able to see more clearly, and understand with more meaning.

As we are sanctified, God lifts veils in order for us to see things which we could previously not see, to understand things which before made no sense.  The word of God is no exception, in fact as we become closer to God then we understand more of God’s word, we see things which we previously could not see.  Scripture has more meaning, and things become clearer.

2 Corinthians 3:12-18

Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech— 13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 4:3

“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,”

1 John 3:2

“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.”

James 4:8

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

The point is that if we draw close to God, then He will in turn draw close to us!  As we do draw closer to God, then He will reveal more of Himself to us.  He will show us things never before seen by us, give us understanding of the truth, and make us more like Him.  Our relationship with God will grow, and our ability to hear God will increase!

The favor of the Lord can be upon us if we walk in the spirit.  God wants more than anything else for us to be in a close relationship with Him!  Seek Him first, give Him the glory, praise, and thanks.  Ask Him to help you in all things.  Turn your troubles over to Him.  Let Him help and guide you daily.

The world is a troublesome place, full of darkness, evil and wickedness.  Yet, we have within us the One who has control over all things, and overcome all things!  We have the One within us who has the ability to protect us, provide for us, and bless us!  We are one with the God of the universe, who loves us more than anything, who has made us His prized possessions!

Fear not for the Lord is with you, do not be discouraged for Our God is greater!  The day is soon coming for our transformation to be completed, our day of redemption.  That glorious day when Jesus Christ will come in the clouds and meet us in the air!

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Amen!
Thank you Gordon. Beautifully written and so down to earth – simple…

The role of grace is mercy, pardon, forgiveness, power and LOVE.
    Ephesians 2:8-10
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it IS a gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Let’s face the future with HOPE and confidence. The future is in God’s hands, trust Him.
May He bless us, all. Maranatha!!

  2. God Bless you Dear Brother.!
I can identify with what you have written and experienced and believe it is a lonely experience of those that are in pursuit of God and even that is not of themselves but God drawing and calling them ever closer and upwards.
A student shares His Masters fate , He was despised, rejected and knew the bitterest grief, the world would love you if you were of this world but the Lord has called you out of the world and you will experience there is a chilling fear of holy enthusiasm and this even amongst the people of God who do not seek the higher ground. God will crucify without pity those He will raise without measure for His Glory and their eternal good. Before the life of resurrection can be fully known there must be the death that ends the dominion of self, it is the way less travelled.
