Commentary By: Gordon King
Do we as Christians really know who Jesus Christ really is? I mean, do we really understand, and do we acknowledge that our Savior is not only the Creator of the world but of the entire universe?! That He is, was always, and will always be?! That without Him nothing can be done, nothing can hold together, and nothing shall remain? That He sits on High next to His Father in heaven, and that His power is infinite, His love immeasurable, and His grace and mercy never ending?!
“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,
“You are my Son,
today I have begotten you”?
“I will be to him a father,
and he shall be to me a son”?
6 And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”
7 Of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels winds,
and his ministers a flame of fire.”
8 But of the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has anointed you
with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”
“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning,
and the heavens are the work of your hands;
11 they will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment,
12 like a robe you will roll them up,
like a garment they will be changed.
But you are the same,
and your years will have no end.”
13 And to which of the angels has he ever said,
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?
14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?“
God the Father is acknowledging that Jesus Christ is Lord, that He is God!!! In verse 8 God the Father speaks about Jesus:
“But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,“
I have heard so many people, even so called believers tell me that Jesus Christ was only a man, that He was merely God’s son, and not God Himself! Well, all you have to do is read and study scripture and you will see written in no uncertain terms that Jesus Christ is God!
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
But what about believers, just who are we really? The following verses tell us who we are in Jesus Christ, it is not an all encompassing list, as there are many more verses regarding this subject. The verses themselves are self-explanatory!
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,”
1 Corinthians 6:19
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?”
1 Peter 2:9
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
“Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
1 John 4:4
“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
1 John 5:18
“We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.”
1 Corinthians 12:27
“Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,”
We as believers are children of the Most High God of the universe! We are new creations, and have been made priest and kings. We are part of the body of Christ, and the temple of the Holy Spirit of God! Christ lives in us and through us. He has given us the power to overcome, the authority to trample over Satan and his demons!
We must understand that we have power and authority! We can do things even greater than Christ did while He physically walked the earth! We must also know that God is in us and works through us, and that we must allow Him to perform His good works in us and through us as well. It’s all inside of us, we only need to be aware of it and practice using it! We must not allow ourselves to grieve the Holy Spirit, for in doing this we distance ourselves in our relationship with God!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
