Commentary By: Gordon King
Fear and uncertainty bring people to the point of desperation, anxiety, and depression. Civil unrest, unprecedented violence, wars and rumors of wars all play a part in the chaos, confusion, and evil permeating the world that we all live in.
Lies, deceit, and the twisting of the truth abound and the masses are being led to destruction, eternal destruction! Even believers in Jesus Christ are being misled in opposing directions, and the world around us is attempting to bring us down with them.
The evil is increasing, and those following in the footsteps of the evil one are becoming more outspoken, more brazen and courageous in their actions. Those who are children of the Most High God of the universe are becoming more sensitive to their actions, more aware of what is coming upon the face of the earth.
As believers become closer in their relationship to God, they become more sensitive to the sin in the world, to the sin in their own lives! We often feel unworthy, and we see ourselves as sinners. Do not be alarmed, this is part of the process of becoming “sanctified”, of becoming more pure, holy, and righteous!
As Christians we should be growing in our faith of God, growing in our relationship with God, thereby becoming more righteous, holy, and pure. In essence, we are becoming more like God! This is the process of sanctification and preparation to meet our Lord and Savior.
When we become more “sanctified”, then we become more aware, we become more sensitive not only to the world around us, but also to the sin within ourselves, within our own hearts! In this way we can fight off the things of the flesh, and put on the things of Christ. We can allow God to live more in us and through us. After-all, it is not us who can do good things, but God who does good things through us! We can do nothing of our own accord, but it is He who lives in us who performs good works through us.
When we become more aware and sensitive to the world around us, then we can prepare to fight off the evil, to withstand the fiery darts of the enemy. And even though God lives in us, we will be attacked by the enemy, in fact even more so! However, we have God Almighty with us, in us, and around us to fight our battles for us, we only need to know and believe!
Jesus is the Vine of Life, we are His branches, we merely bear the fruit that God produces. It is not us who produces the fruit but God Himself! We allow the Holy Spirit of God to work in our lives, to work within and through us, therefore we should not grieve the Spirit of God, but allow His good works to lead us and guide us, to produce good works! This is the sign of our faith, good works. We do not obtain faith or salvation through good works, but rather good works and the fruit of the Spirit prove that we have faith and salvation! However, without good works faith is dead!
“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.“
Let us be strong and courageous, knowing that our God is with us. Let us be reassured that by becoming more aware of the sin in the world and the sin in our own lives, we are becoming more Christ-like! Let us show our faith and salvation by bearing the fruit of the Spirit and good works!
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
