Woe to the World!

Woe to the world

Commentary By:  Gordon King

The prophet Isaiah spoke of the evils in the last days.  He gave a special warning for those calling good evil, and evil good!

Isaiah 5:20

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Just what did he mean by “Woe”?

The Free Dictionary definition of “woe”:

1. Sorrow or grief; misery.

2.   a. Misfortune or wretchedness: listened to his tale of woe.

       b. A cause of sorrow or misery; a misfortune: economic and political woes.
So by this definition those who call evil good and good evil will reap sorrow, misery, and misfortune.  However, the bible uses the word woe many other times, even Jesus Himself used the word woe, actually more times than any other in the bible!

Matthew 23:27-28

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

Matthew 24:19-21

‘But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! “But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath. “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.’
The word woe I believe, is used as a warning and must be used and taken in the context of what is being said.  At times it is used to convey a message to those who are unrighteous, that judgment is coming their way, and at other times it is used to warn that disaster is coming and to be aware.
The book of Revelation also speaks of “woes”.

Revelation 8:13

‘Then I looked, and I heard an eagle flying in midheaven, saying with a loud voice, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!” ‘

Revelation 12:12

“For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.”

Again we see “woe” used to warn those dwelling on the earth of coming judgment and the wrath of Satan.

Woe to those who call good evil, and evil good, who put darkness for light, and light for darkness!  Isn’t that what we see in the world today?  People who are standing for what is holy and righteous being called evil, and those seeking to kill and destroy being called good!

Point in case, the nation of Israel is being called and labeled evil, and the Palestinians being labeled as good!  What?!  How on earth could anyone in their right mind even consider such things as the truth?  Yet, many believe them to be the truth!

Christians throughout the world are being labeled as evil, and Muslims who are committing heinous acts of violence throughout the world are being labeled as good!  Once again we see the irony of such beliefs, the direct contradiction of terms, and the twisting of good into evil, and evil into good!

Scripture says “woe” to those who say and do such things!  It gives warnings to those who but bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!  A warning of coming judgment!

2 Timothy 3:1-5

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

2 Timothy 3:13

But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

This is the world we now live in, this is how people in the world act, and it shall get worse the closer we get to the return of Christ to earth!

The world has turned the truth into lies, and lies into truth!  They are becoming more anti-Christ, turning away from the word of God, and instead following the teachings of fables and doctrines of demons.

2 Timothy 4:1-5

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

The apostle Paul tells us to preach the word!  To be ready in season and out.  To convince, rebuke, exhort.  He tells us to “be watchful” in “all” things, and to do the work of an evangelist!

The bible tells us over and over again to be watchful, to be ready, and to continue with the Lord’s work!  Let us not slumber, let us not sleep, for the time is soon coming for God to pour out His wrath upon a wicked world!  And just as it was in the days of Noah, people were eating, sleeping, working, and marrying before the destruction of the world.  The world was a wicked place, where people turned away from God’s word, instead they followed the doctrines of demons and twisted the truth into lies!  They did not heed the warnings from God, nor did they believe them!

Isn’t this exactly how the world is today?  People in and of the world not heeding the warning calls from God Almighty, and not believing them?!

The apostle Paul was not the only one to tell us of these things, the apostle Peter also wrote about the last days:

2 Peter 3:1-9

“Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

Scoffers and mockers will say in the last days that the Lord is not coming, that Christians who tell us these things are nuts!  They forget that the world was destroyed by a great flood during the days of Noah.  They do not heed the words of God, saying that the world and heavens above will be destroyed by fire!  The good Lord may tarry, not because He is slack, but because He wishes for no one to perish!

2 Peter 2:4-11

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)— then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries, 11 whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.

The days are soon coming for God to deliver His judgment upon a wicked and evil world!  He shall deliver the godly out of temptations and judgment, for judgment is reserved for those of the world.

Political correctness is an evil ploy by Satan himself, an ideology which seeks to undermine the workings of God!  On the outward appearance it looks good and sweet, yet on the inside it is rotten and putrid!  The mere essence of political correctness evokes a tone of “everything goes”, of “tolerance” of and for all things, unless of course you believe differently!  This is part of the last days scenario in which the apostles warned us about, the ways, thoughts, and beliefs of man.  The ungodly attitudes of self-righteousness, arrogance and pride.  The adherence of demonic doctrines, and the spirit of anti-Christ!  The belief that all religions are true (except Christianity), that all ways are pure, and that there are many ways to heaven, and if you speak up and out against it then you are labeled as intolerant and a hater!  And God says “Woe” to you who put good for evil and evil for good, who call bitter sweet and sweet bitter, Woe!

We must all remember that even Satan himself disguises as an angel of light!  He shall come wearing sheep’s clothing, speaking words which sound logical, and be very charismatic and like-able!  He will put darkness for light, and light for darkness!  Beware, test all things against the word of God, test all spirits, and follow the lead of the Holy Spirit within!

Why do I bring such things up, especially on Christmas Eve?!  Because, there are many in the world who do not see the true meaning of Christmas, nor do they heed the calls from God!  They continue to deny the deity of Christ, the holiness of His birth, and the knowledge of the truth!  Many say that Christians are evil and wicked, that Christ was just a mere man, and that salvation is given to the whole world no matter what one believes in!

God loves the world and wishes for no one to perish, this is true!  Yet, He also warns us that there is only one way to heaven, one way to the Father in heaven, and that way is through Jesus Christ!

God Almighty hear my prayers, for You are the Most High, the Creator of all things, and the Sustainer of life itself!  Give to Your children the ability to discern right from wrong, the courage and strength to stand and overcome, the wisdom to know the truth, and protection from the evil ones.  Show us Your will, and help us to perform it here on earth as it is in heaven.  Open the eyes of the blind, soften hearts of stone, and bring the truth to the lost with the knowledge of who you really are.  In Jesus precious name I pray, Amen

God bless my friends and Merry Christmas!  Maranatha!

  1. Wow! Gordon. Thank you for your candid view and truth.
We can no longer side step truth, the truth of Scriptures’. We’re heading towards the close of this age, the close of time and need to be prepared for the coming of Our Lord. With the world in such turmoil, apostasy, complacent with the status quo TRUTH needs to be proclaim, both the beauty of God and His mercy And His coming judgments to a disobedient, rebellious world.

God is love in its purest form, no malice towards anyone, no animosity or enmity. Simply caring for fellowman. Knowing and loving God for who HE IS.

Putting God first in our lives is our only defense, Jesus is our refuge from the woes that are surely coming and intensifying. We must come to terms with our own life and see where we stand in our own convictions; whom we stand with will determine our destiny in eternity when the last trumpet blows… (And it will sound, its a matter of time.)
Praying for strength, courage, wisdom to endure whats to come (for prophecy is unfolding in front of our eyes), praying for friends and family, for our military and country, for Christians and Israel, for our planet as a whole.
Until everyone realizes we’re all one big human family with the Ancient of Days being Our Father in Heaven and our Advocate and Savior Jesus Christ as Our King.

Thank you again and I second your prayer.
Lord hear our prayer, Always in Your Holy Name, Amen.
    God bless us all. Maranatha!
    Merry Christmas!
