Commentary By: Gordon King
Growing concern over global crises is leading many to fear the unknown. Lack of water, food shortages, increased diseases, economic turmoil, natural disasters, war, threats of war, and Islamic terror are all creating a climate of uncertainty, of doubt, fear, and hopelessness.
With no real end in sight, nor any world leader taking the lead, it seems as though all is lost! As if we are headed into a bottomless pit, so deep that there is no way out.
All of these things and more are threatening the very existence of life as we know it, and I haven’t even spoken about what may be happening to us personally. All of us have tough times, we all go through personal trials and tribulations. With everything going on in the world around us piled on top of whatever personal trials we may be going through, it’s not hard to see why so many people have doubt and fear, anxiety and depression!
This is the world that we live in, full of disaster, evil, and sin, rebellion against the One who created it all, Jesus Christ! The world has answers to the problems in life, answers which will only lead to further destruction. Their answer is that they can do it on their own, that they don’t need God in their lives! So they push God out, further out of society, further out of government, and further out of the public arena.
Isn’t this true? Don’t we now see this happening throughout the world? Governments and society at large are becoming more and more anti-Christ and anti-Semitic. Christians and Jews around the world are being persecuted more and more each and everyday.
1 John 4:2-3
“By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.“
As the world turns it becomes darker, as time goes by the spirit of the Antichrist will become a more dominant force. The world speaks of worldly things and worldly wisdom, and those of the world understand these things according to the world. Yet, those of the world do not hear nor understand the things of God.
1 John 4:4-6
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.“
Have you ever spoken to an unbeliever about God or the bible? I’m sure most of us have. Have you ever wondered why it is that they just don’t seem to get it? They always seem to have an answer to negate what you are telling them, worldly wisdom and opinions. They do not believe that Jesus Christ is God, that He is the only way to heaven, if they did then they would hear you and understand, but they cannot because their spirit is not of God.
As believers in Jesus Christ, we are to love, not to fear.
1 John 4:18
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.“
We have not been given a spirit of fear.
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.“
We also know that God causes all things to work together for the good of those that love Him, all who are called according to His purpose. All things work together for our good, even trials and tribulations work towards our good, as long as we are believers in Jesus Christ! Whatever happens in this world we are not to fear, for we know that God is with us, that He is on our side, and that we have already overcome! Amen
The good Lord tells us that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
So even though it looks as though the world is completely falling apart, know that God is with us and within us! Jesus Christ lives through us, in our lives, in our bodies, and in our spirit.
2 Corinthians 4:8-10
“We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.“
Have strength and courage in knowing that our God is with us always, that He is living within us, for us, and all around us. It is He who causes all things to work together for our good! Keep your eyes not on the things of this world, but of the things not seen, the things of heaven above. Ours is but a moment in this physical life, but an eternity with God afterwards.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.“
Let your light shine through your good works, show the world the love of God through your deeds and actions. Be the salt of the earth by leading the lost down a righteous path, standing for what is holy and pure.
Buildup for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust can destroy them, where thieves cannot steal them! Heaven and eternity are for real, and your eternal treasures are for real also. You only have one chance to build them up, only one physical life time to earn rewards for eternity! This is important and we are told to do so by our God.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.“
The world acts as if it has the answers to all of life’s problems, as if they know the answers to the here and now, and the hereafter. Yet, there is only one true answer, one true afterlife, one way to heaven. And that way is Jesus Christ! He is the answer, the answer to life’s problems, the answer to our problems, the answer to this life and the afterlife.
Repent of your sins, ask the Lord to forgive you, accept Him as your personal Savior, then He will forgive and give you eternal life! Not by your own works and deeds, but by the grace of God. The blood of Jesus washes away sin and gives us life.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
