Assailant in underground station cries ‘This is for Syria,’ stabs three including one seriously, is tasered and subdued
(SOURCE) A man wielding a large knife stabbed several people at a London underground station on Saturday night, in a suspected terror attack.
One of the victims was “very seriously injured,” with a knife wound to the neck, Sky News said. Two others were lightly hurt.
The attacker called out “This is for Syria,” several eyewitnesses said.
Britain voted last week to join air strikes against Islamic State in Syria, and has begun flying such missions.
Police were investigating whether the incident, at Leytonstone underground station in East London, was “an Islamist attack,” the Sky TV report said.
The attacker was tasered several times, and eventually subdued and taken into custody.
Film of the attack showed a pool of blood in the station ticket hall, and the alleged assailant being tasered.
An eyewitness, Laurynas Godvisa, said she saw the attacker still armed with the knife, and a body on the floor, the Guardian reported. “I was so scared I ran for my life. After good 10-15 (minutes) police came and got the guy and arrested him. And as he was coming out this is what he said: ‘This is what happens when you f*** with mother Syria all of your blood will be spilled’.”
The commander of Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism unit said: “We are treating this as a terrorist incident. I would urge the public to remain calm, but alert and vigilant.”
