Commentary By: Gordon King
I am a sinner, a nobody, unworthy of salvation, unworthy of God’s love for me. I do not deserve heaven or eternal life, I do deserve hell and separation from God Almighty! None of us are worthy of being forgiven for our transgressions against the Lord, not even one of us. Yet, our God is one of love, mercy, compassion, forgiveness, and grace!
Why has God chosen me to do what I do for Him? Like I said, I am a nobody, and for the most part insignificant in the world. Even so, the Lord has chosen me, called me to reach out and proclaim the good news to a hurting world. I do what I do not for myself or my own desires, but according to the will of God Almighty! I take no credit for the good that comes from this site, it all goes to my Father in heaven.
So just what is it that God has called you to do? He has a plan for each and every one of us, all according to His will. We as Christians are called to do the will of God on earth as it is in heaven.
This is what I truly believe, and many may disagree with me and that’s ok. There is much more to being a Christian than most people think, and there is much more to life than most wish to believe.
The true reality of life is not what we can see, feel, or touch. The true reality is what we cannot see, feel, or touch! Just because we cannot sense something with our five senses does not mean that it doesn’t exist, on the contrary my friends!
Take the wind for example, we cannot see it, but we know it exists because we can feel it when it rushes by, we can see what it does when it blows through the trees. Oxygen exists, yet we cannot see it, feel it, or touch it in its natural state, but we know it’s there because science has proven that without it we would die. Magnetic fields exist in the earth, however we cannot feel it, touch it, or see it, yet we know that it’s there also through science. Even the universe itself, most of it cannot be seen, the expansion of it cannot be seen, yet we believe because it has been proven through science. All of these have been proven through science, and this in and of itself also proves other things which we cannot see such as the existence of God and heaven.
God cannot be seen, yet He is real. Heaven cannot be seen, yet it is real. Satan and demons cannot be seen, yet they are real also!
If true reality cannot be known through our five senses, does this make it non-existent? No! Not at all. In fact at times the good Lord does give some of us the ability to see the unknown, to get a glimpse of heaven, of hell, of angels, and even Jesus Christ! He touches some of us in ways that we can see, hear, smell, and feel his presence. This is truly a blessing! And even so, the Lord performs miracles on a daily basis, people are healed of their illnesses, doors are opened, and God’s blessings abound.
When we become Christians we are changed, a new creation in Christ. We share in the inheritance of God, of heaven above. We have been given authority and power to perform God’s will on earth as it is in heaven. This is all done by faith, faith in God’s word, faith in His promises, and faith that God will do what He says. We become part of Christ and He indwells us with His Holy Spirit. This is where the power comes from, the Holy Spirit within and not from ourselves.
“But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.”
I believe that we are to bring down heaven to earth, that the will of the Father is for heaven and the things of it are to be manifested on earth by us, through the Holy Spirit. This is not to say that heaven is on earth, but we are to bring the things of heaven to earth. I know that I will get some flack for saying this, but this is what I truly believe.
Just as the Lord’s prayer says:
“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
It’s all about God’s will! God’s will being done on earth, just as it is in heaven. I believe that Jesus was saying that His will be done now through the prayers and acts of His disciples and also at a future time when He rules the world. The kingdom of God is with God, and if God is with us then His kingdom is also!
“Nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”
“And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
As believers in Jesus Christ we are already in the kingdom of God! We have been given what is needed to overcome the world, and to spread the gospel. And although we have not yet been fully redeemed, we share in the inheritance of God Almighty!
So just what is God’s will? First and foremost is to love your God with all of your heart, mind, and soul, second is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. But we are also to love our enemies, to love those who come against us! This can be one of the most difficult things to do. We are to forgive, to show mercy and grace, to have compassion for the hurting. This is how we share God with the lost, to love them as Jesus loves us!
God has given us the power and the authority to overcome the darkness, to defeat the enemy, and to love. We can perform the same miracles that Jesus did while He physically walked the earth.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.“
According to Jesus we can perform the same miracles that He did, and even greater! And whatever we ask in His name He will do it. This does not mean that anything that we ask for He will do, it must be according to His will, His purpose, and in His timing.
If this is true then why do some of us suffer from illness and pain? Good question and I don’t have one definitive answer. I do know that some of us may not have enough faith or believe that it will happen, while others may be living in sin preventing God from healing, or maybe we are not living in God’s will. Other than that I do not know and it’s only speculation on my part. However, I do take God at His word and believe them to be the truth!
I do know that God allows pain and suffering for many reasons, one of which is to bring us closer to Him, others are to teach us, to grow our faith, and to chastise us. Sometimes we go through pain and suffering in order to comfort those who may be going through the same thing.
2 Corinthians 1:4
“who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
“For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.“
We live in a fallen world, full of sin and unrighteousness. Unfortunately pain and suffering are a part of the consequences of living in a fallen world. The apostle Paul tells us to take heart, for the pains of this world will not last forever and cannot be compared to the glory that will be revealed in us.
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
1 Peter 5:10
“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
The will of God in heaven and on earth, this is the reality. God’s will is happening on earth whether or not you are a part of it. God is real, heaven is real, whether you believe it or not!
Ours as believers in Jesus Christ is to share Him through us, by loving, forgiving, helping, leading, guiding, sharing, and caring. There is more than one way to lead the lost to Jesus, more than one way to share God’s love with the world. God is bringing parts of heaven to earth in an attempt to show the world that He loves them, to share with all of us the glory of His goodness and His loving kindness.
Just as Jesus is in the Father, and the Father is in Jesus, we are in Christ and Christ is in us. And as Jesus said, if you have seen Me, then you have also seen my Father in heaven. Is this true of us? Can we truly say that if you see me, then you have also seen Jesus?
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
