Firefighters Put Out 2 Church Fires in South L.A.

Firefighters put out two early morning fires within minutes that erupted at two churches in South Los Angeles Thursday.

The first fire, which occured in the 8500 block of San Pedro Street, was reported around 12:45 a.m. and extinguished within about five minutes. The fire appeared to have started on the outside of the building and spread to the inside of the church, firefighters said.

The second fire was reported at about 1 a.m. in the 8300 block of Compton Avenue. Firefighers were able to put out the blaze in about 15 minutes.

The two churches are located about four miles from each other.

No injuries were reported. 

The cause of the fires are under investigation.
