Commentary By: Gordon King
Has anyone in the world noticed the things that have been happening over the past few years? I’m talking about earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, severe storms, natural disasters, war, evil, and violence. Not only that these events are occurring, but that they are occurring more frequently and with more intensity.
I’m also talking about strange and unusual occurrences such as meteor strikes, blood-red waters, strange sounds, strange lights in the sky, mass animal deaths, animal attacks on humans, and massive solar flares.
Is the world taking notice? Are they even aware of what’s going on around them? Do they fear what is coming next, are they even curious?
Just recently I heard some secular individuals speaking about the disasters around the globe. They did notice and seemed concerned, however, they were not alarmed. I spoke up and said something about the end times and bible prophecy. They had no interest in what I was telling them. I told them it was going to get worse. They seemed disinterested in what I was saying and walked away. I was expecting them to get excited and ask me questions, but that didn’t happen.
I am wondering how many of you have had the same or similar situations happen to you? Have you heard unbelievers talking about current world events and how bad it’s getting? Do they seem worried about the future? Do they feel as though there is no hope? Or do they believe that it will all just work itself out?
It just amazes me that the secular world is not alarmed at what is happening in the world today! That most of them seem so complacent with the way things are and in the direction the world is headed. I shouldn’t be amazed at all, the bible tells us that the world will be like this in the end times. That there will be scoffers and mockers, that people will follow their own sinful desires and lusts.
“But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”
The end of days will be like in the days of Noah. People will be living their lives as they normally do, eating, drinking, and marrying. This sounds normal and fine, however, they do it all without God. They continue on with their lives not heeding the warning calls of God, not watching, not listening. Just as Noah preached for one hundred years about the coming destruction, so too the world is now being warned!
2 Timothy 3:1-5
“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!“
This is partially what Jesus meant when He said that the coming of the Son of Man will be as the days of Noah were. People of the world will not be concerned with what believers are telling them. They will be so wrapped up in their own world, so worldly-minded that they will have no time for God! They will laugh at, mock and scorn the Truth. Their eyes are blind, their hearts turned to stone!
The closer we get to Christ’s return for His church, the worse things will get. The more difficult it will be to lead the lost to salvation! Yet, as followers and saints of the Most High God of the Universe, we must fulfill our commission from Him. We must spread the good news and lead the lost to salvation. We must make disciples of all nations. We must continue to shine the Light of Christ into the darkness of the world.
As world events continue to unfold, as bible prophecy continues to be fulfilled, we can and must use these events to bring the lost to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Some will hear and heed the call, yet many more will not. Ours is not to save, but to plant the seeds and light the path which leads to eternal life.
God bless my friends! Maranatha!
