False Prophets and False Teachers, Beware!

false teachers and false prophets copy

Commentary By:  Gordon King

Hello folks, I pray that all reading this are well and under the protection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

For some reason I feel the need to write this to you.  I am feeling much deception in the world, and I believe that many Christians as well as unbelievers are being deceived.

The bible speaks about deception and being deceived many times throughout the new testament.  In fact so much, that it must be a major theme in the end times.   Times in which we are now living in.

The apostle Peter gives great detail about false prophets and teachers.

2 Peter 2:1-3

“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.”

These false prophets and false teachers will bring in destructive heresies in secrecy.  What in the world does that mean anyway?  They are cunning and adept at twisting the truth of scripture, making it whatever they desire it to say, rather than what it really says.  I see this happen all of the time.  So called Christians taking scripture out of context to make it something that it is not, without the full context of scripture or other verses in the bible to back it up.  Remember, there are many false teachers who are actually wolves in sheep’s clothing.  Do not be naive about this.

They even deny the Lord who bought them.  What does that mean?  Are they actually Christians or not?  I really had to think about this one and study the context of what the apostle Peter is saying.  In 2 Peter, chapter 2, the apostle is telling us about false prophets and false teachers.  He speaks of dogs returning to their vomit, and the pigs after being washed returning to her muddy ground.  Peter goes on to tell us in verse 8-10:

“9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries,”

So I understand Peter as telling us that although they have been bought with a price from God, they did not really accept Him as their Savior, however they did know the truth.

2 Peter 2:18-22

‘For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. 20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.” ‘

The apostle is telling us that it would have been better for these false prophets and teachers to never have known the truth of salvation through Jesus Christ then to have known and turn away.  They knew the truth, yet they were never really converted to Christianity.  They take the truth of scripture and make destructive heresies of it, misleading and misguiding true believers in Jesus Christ.

The following are some examples of what I am talking about.

I have been accused of being a false teacher because I believe in a “pre-tribulation” rapture of the church.  I have lots of scripture which leads me to believe so, yet I have never claimed to know when the rapture will actually take place.  No one knows.  Yet these people claim that they do know for sure!  Take heed to such people and their teachings!

I have been accused of being a false teacher for saying that a person is saved only by believing in Jesus Christ, along with the repentance of sins.  They tell me that a person must be baptized in physical water to be saved.  This is not biblical, nor is it accurate.

I have heard so-called Christians say that Jesus was only the Son of God, not God Himself.  Really?!  Apparently they have not been reading their bibles!

I have heard from so-called Christians that you can be a practicing homosexual and be saved.  They say that homosexuality is not a sin in the bible.  I say, sure it is!  And where is your repentance of sin?

I have heard so-called Christians say that there are many ways to heaven.  Really?!!!

I have heard so-called Christians say that the gifts of the Holy Spirit do not exist today, that they were only used in the days after Jesus ascension into heaven.  I know of many believers who have and use gifts of the Spirit!

These are just some examples that I came up with.  I am sure that there is much more twisting of the scripture going on out there.  My point is that we need to be aware, discerning, and cautious about what we hear and who we hear it from.  We need to test all things against the written word of God.  Test everything, learn God’s word, know what it says and what He means.  That’s one reason we have the bible.

I am not perfect, I am learning, I make mistakes, I admit that.  But to knowingly twist scripture and lead people down the wrong path is ungodly and from Satan himself!  Sometimes believers think that they are right about scripture, when they may not be seeing it clearly.  That’s happened to me before.  We are all on a learning experience.  Growing in the Lord.  However, blatant misrepresentation of the word of God is evil, wicked, and ungodly.

Galatians 1:6-7

“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ.

Galatians 1:9

“As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”

Beware of those teaching the word of God if it does not line up with scripture.  Test all things against God’s word.  Ask the Holy Spirit for clarity and enlightenment.  We are living in a time of great deception, evil, and wickedness my friends.  Satan would like nothing more than to cause believers in Christ to fall away into his deceiving doctrines!  Doctrines of demons!  He shall attempt to weaken our faith, discourage us, and lead us away from God.

May the Lord God Almighty give you wisdom, enlightenment, clarity, and discernment.  In Jesus Holy name I pray, Amen

God bless my friends, brothers and sisters in Christ, the Most High God of the Universe!

  1. I receive that prayer Amen!
Just tonight I heard a Christian on TV say that Jesus would have served gays at their weddings and hung out with them because Jesus is all about love. That statement I know has been used multiple times regarding homosexuality and in my opinion is false teaching. Scripturewise I do agree that God is love but I do not think he would condone and participate in sin. I think this is how many churches are being deceived into accepting the gay lifestyle. They use Gods love to justify acceptance of sin.
I am also saddened by the whole war of pre, mid and post trib. Some people are just down right hostile towards others who do not share their same opinion. And you are right Gordon no one knows for sure. Ive always had a problem with post trib belief because in many a scripture God promises to save us from the coming destruction. I also do not think we will go to heaven and do a 360 to come right back down here to battle along side Jesus. And post trib would also put a time on God coming back and no one except the father knows that time. However no matter my beliefs I would never ever call names or put someone down if they did believe post trib. We as Christians need to stand together in these perilous times not fight with each other. I love this old hymn that sings “and they’ll know we are Christians by our love by our love yes they’ll know we are Christians by our love!” Now more than ever before it’s time to let our lights shine through this darkness as beacons of hope to all mankind.

  2. Hello Rebecca. I know that Jesus did fellowship with sinners of all sorts. But that does not mean He condoned or participated in their sin. There is a difference. He lived among them to show them love and the way to salvation. Which is what we are to do as well. Sometimes I think its difficult for us as believers to differentiate between the two, I know it is for me. Live in the world, but be not part of the world, this isn’t always an easy thing to do.

We are to love everyone, all sinners. So the real question is would Jesus have served gays? I really have to think about this one. It’s almost an open ended question, not specific enough. I know that He would have eaten with them, and spoken to them about the truth. But would He have served them at and attended their weddings? I don’t think that He would have, because then He would have been condoning the wedding.

Pre-trib, mid-trib, post-trib, it really shouldn’t matter a whole lot, we are to be ready at “all” times. If we believe that He is delaying His coming, then we may delay our relationship with Him and will not be ready. We all need to remember what Jesus said to us:
    Matthew 24:42-44
“Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Jesus also tells us to beware of false christs and false prophets:
    Matthew 24:24-25
“For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand.”

    God bless Rebecca!

  3. The church of Christ deny that when you receive Christ as your Savior that the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you(they say it was only the apostles that received this).Though many new testament verses say different

  4. Very inspiring words, my friend.
In the end, The Father has the last word on when the rapture will take place. We need to be aware of the signs and be prepared.

I agree with all but one statement, and that is in regards to water baptism not found in Scripture–
Jesus, Himself was baptized, submerged in water (Matt.3:13, 3:16+), we are to emulate Him. Yet, if it’s not possible (only you and God the Father know why) like the thief who was crucified along side Jesus; then your conscience and heart will speak for you, instead.

“But Jesus said to them, ‘You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?’ They said to Him, ‘We are able.’ So Jesus said to them, ‘You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized;..'” (Mark 10:38,39) I believe the baptism Our Lord speaks of here (the refinement:see Isa.48:10) is the hell we all will go through in this life for the Gospel — the hatred and lies we must experience, endure to the point of death (in some cases), this is the cup we must drink and therefore being baptized, ‘refined, tested in the furnace of affliction’ and/or death, as the disciples of Christ. “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death. Therefore we are buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” (Rom 6:3,4)
Baptism of water is showing your surrender of self to God, your repentance of your sins by submerging your old self and coming up a new spirit/self in Christ. “One Lord, one faith, one baptism.” (Eph.4:5) Either physically and/or refinement.
“Therefore is also an anti-type which now saves us– baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God); through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” (1Peter 3:21)
Reading all of 1Peter 3:18-22 gives you the understanding that you state Gordon, regarding baptism by water not needed. It’s the baptism of the Holy Spirit that ultimately counts. The baptism of conscience, of heart in the belief of The Father, His son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit who directs and connects our spirit with Him/His (the three in one). It’s surrendering your all to the Living God. His word became flesh, Jesus Christ, who took our penalty of sin upon Himself and gave us eternal life with Him. In Mark 16:16 Jesus states “He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned.”

In the context of conscience, is water baptism necessary, no. Yet, all the Apostles emulated Jesus with water baptism and went around baptizing ‘in the name of Jesus Christ’ for the remission of sins and to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 2:38).
Water baptism is physically showing others your true conversion, where you stand and who you believe in, a sign if you will, for others to witness (see).

Yes, we all need to be aware, we all need to search the Holy Scriptures’ ourselves in prayer for understanding and truth; for knowing whats transpired, whats to come and for being prepared for His glorious return. We are all learning God’s ways, the truth from the lies being perpetrated, accepting His teachings, His will, His word and practicing them in our own life. With good will and malice towards none.
We are not to be afraid of whats to come but look up for our redemption draws nigh… Maranatha!
Amen to your prayers, in Jesus Holy name.
And thank you Gordon for being our watchman on the hill. God bless.

  5. Thanks for your comment SweetJava. Actually, I never said that “physical” water baptism is not found in scripture. The bible does speak of being physically baptized in water. However, what I said was that you do not have to be baptized in “physical” water to be saved. You should be baptized in “physical” water as an outward act of faith and devotion to God. I believe that you also said that in your comment.
    God bless SweetJava!

  6. That’s very sad, and we should take notice of such things. Scripture definitely teaches that when we are saved we are filled with and baptized with the Holy Spirit of God.
    God bless Laura!

  7. Good Morning Gordon,

I’ve been reading the scriptures since I reunited myself with the Lord. I have “come out” to some fellow co-workers and other friends as being a Christian. I have been so confused about whether or not we are held to the law of God or not. some people say yes, some people say no. I understand and have read in the scriptures that the Law was nailed to the cross, however that in becoming a Christian and being born again, ( I have left my previous Homosexual/Lesbian lifestyle) that God writes his laws in our hearts and in our minds, and that we are not judged by the law, but rather by our faith/love/works/His Grace/His Mercy. in the search to be more Christ like, I have found myself being so confused, although I have read that the old covenant has been removed and we are under a new covenant, (I’m still not 100% sure what the new covenant means) I cant help to feel as though, I should still practice the law of God, such as keeping the 10 commandments, all 10 of them, including the Sabbath (not Sunday), I have been bombarded with information, from all kinds of sources and although I read the scriptures, at times I just do not understand. it can be very confusing for me since I want to, out of my own free will to obey the Laws God has given us since the beginning of time, but I also do not want to sin against him because I know if I disobey one, I have disobeyed them all. I’m so frighten that I am not doing the right thing, in trying to do the right thing.

I had a dream, and in this dream, an alter was presented to me, it was opened for me to see the contents, in there were sacrificial items, and what I believe to be items for rituals, the voice in my dream presented the Alter to me before opening it and said, “the alter is ready” and after it was opened, the voice said, “but this is the alter of Satan” I jumped out of bed in hearing that name, and landed in my living room, and prayed to God to take this from me if it was not from him, I didn’t dream of it again. But it has me concerned. I believe he is trying to tell me something, my guess is that I am not to follow the old covenant, but I’m not sure and it’s making me worry.

In my search for the truth, I have found myself confused and I ask for God to help me understand.

a lot of things has he showed me already, like when I was so frustrated and asked him what the most important thing was to him, in my heard I was screaming this question to him, and I looked up at the sky, and there, written in the clouds I saw the word “LOVE” and it made me very happy. however, I’m still so confused and I know the bible speaks of this too. I do not want to be left behind, I need my lord and savior and desire him in my heart.

can you please help me understand that the new covenant is and what is the truth of our salvation. everyone gives me different answers and now when I read the bible I’m so confused!! Please Help!

P.S. he also sent me two eagles that same day (of the cloud message) … I don’t want to be deceived or blind or mislead. everyone is accusing everyone of lying!

  8. Hello Rose! I commend you for stopping your lesbian lifestyle. The scripture is very clear about such things. It takes courage and strength to do the right thing.

You do sound as if you are very confused about salvation, and what being a Christian is really all about. First of all I would like to tell you that when I was saved at age 17, God told me that He is Love! He told me that before I read any scripture stating such, the scriptures also tell us this. You are right Rose, Love is the most important thing of all!

    1 John 4:7-8
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

The information about Christianity that I am going to share with you Rose is taken directly from scripture. Please check it out for yourself.

    John 14:15
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

    John 14:21
“He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

    Read: 1 John 4

We are not saved by the ten commandments, but we are told to keep them and to follow them. This we should be doing as Christians. However, sometimes we trip and fall, sometimes we sin and break a commandment, then we need to repent of our sin and ask God to forgive us. However, we are saved by “grace”, not by the law which is of the Old Testament. We are saved by our repentance of our sin and by believing in Jesus Christ! Only by the blood of Jesus are we saved Rose. Nothing more, nothing less!

    Ephesians 2:8-9
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

We have been saved by grace through our faith, that’s it! It’s all what Jesus did for us, not anything we did for ourselves.

    Romans 3:19-20
“Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

Under the “law” all are found guilty of sin. Because no one can keep all commandments without sinning. That was one reason for the commandments, to show the Jews that they could not do it on their own, that they needed God. No one will be found righteous under the law, the law gives us knowledge of sin. However, as believers in Jesus Christ we are to follow the law and try to obey it, not to justify us and save us, but to honor our Father in heaven. To become more holy and righteous. What we do in life, the works that we do, the fruit that we bear confirms our faith in God.

    James 2:18
“But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”

    James 2:26
“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

    James 2:20-22
“But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?”

Jesus saves us, works show our faith to God. Works are the outward expression of our faith to God. I know it sounds confusing, but it makes sense. You cannot just read one verse from the bible and get all of the answers, you must study the scripture and find out what it says. There is much more about all of this written in scripture, I am just giving you some highlights.

    Galatians 2:16
“knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.”

    1) We are saved by repenting of our sins and believing in and accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, PERIOD!
    2) We are not saved by our works; rather they show our faith in God and our salvation, such as “water baptism”, it should be done to show our faith.
    3) As Christians we should be trying to follow God’s commandments; not for salvation but because we love Him. This shows that we are truly saved.
    4) Once saved always saved! We are sealed by His Holy Spirit until the day of redemption! Amen (Ephesians 1:13-14)
    5) We should be walking in the (Holy) Spirit and bearing the “Fruit of the Spirit”. (Galatians 5:22-26)
    6) We can walk away from God, we can still sin, however this will put distance between us and God. It will affect our relationship with God. However, we still have our salvation. When we were saved Jesus paid for “all” of our sins, past, present, and future, but we should repent when we sin. (1 Peter 2:24)
    7) We can earn rewards in heaven by our “good works”. (Matthew 16:27)

Christians are saved by what Jesus did for us on the cross. We are to love everyone, even our enemies. We are to walk by faith. We are to trust God for all things. We are to perform “good works” as Jesus did. We are to become more “Christ-like” everyday. We are being “sanctified” (made holy and righteous) for heaven, to be in the presence of God Almighty.

I hope this helps and does not confuse you further Rose. May God bless you, give you clarity, vision, insight, wisdom and knowledge. Amen

  9. Thank Gordon, This has helped, I believe I have figured out the meaning of my dream also. God Bless you. I will never turn away from my savior. I pray for us all. *heart*
