We all have a calling, what’s yours?

calling from God copy

Commentary By:  Gordon King

This site which I author, was started by me over two and one half years ago.  I was filled with and led by the Holy Spirit of God Almighty to start this blog.  I had no idea what a blog was, nor did I have a clue about how to start one.  The Lord led me every step of the way.  This was my calling by my Lord God.

I often hear other Christians criticize me for blogging what I post, such as all of the evil and wickedness happening in the world today, the end-time scenario and how it relates to bible prophecy.  This is my response to them: “If you criticize me, then you are criticizing God.  It was God who told me to start this site, and it is God who continues to lead me in authoring this site.  You can choose to believe me or not, its your choice.  I know my experiences with God and from God.  I know what God tells me and where He leads me”.

Romans 11:29

“For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”

We all have different callings from God in our lives, they are not all the same.  God gets our attention in many different ways, and many of His ways are mysterious.  As children of the Most High God of the Universe, we are the same in many ways, yet we are different in personality and experience.  The same is true for reaching the lost and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ!  People respond differently to different approaches.  Do you think that all of the apostles had the same personality and the same approach?  I think not.

Romans 12:4

“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function,”

As for me, I choose to follow God and not what man tells me is right.  I listen to His Holy Spirit within me, I follow His lead.  The Lord has many ways to reach the lost, to bring us all to our knees in repentance.  It’s His plan, not ours that matters.

1 Corinthians 1:26-27

“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;”

We all have a calling, God’s will for us in our lives.  Each and every believer in Jesus Christ is called to do something for the Lord.  Authoring this blog is one of my callings.  What’s yours?  Has God made it clear to you what your calling is?  Listen to the Lord and He will lead you in the direction of His will for you.

Take some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.  Get by yourself with God.  Speak to Him openly and honestly, but most importantly listen to what He has to tell you!  Spend some quality time with God, and He will show you what your calling is.  Learn how to listen and to hear from God.  It’s not always easy and it takes some practice, but in time you will know when God is speaking to you.  The only way to do it is to spend time with Him and in His word.

I have often heard many Christians tell me that they just don’t hear from God.  That God is so quiet and He doesn’t speak to them anymore.  There could be many reasons for that.

For one, they may not be walking with the Lord as they should be, not in His word, or not praying often enough.  We need to be praying, worshiping, thanking, and honoring God on a daily basis.  We must put God first in our lives, period!

They may have sin in their life that is blocking their communication with God.  Just because we are believers doesn’t mean that we cannot lose touch with God.  On the contrary!  If we as believers walk away from God and live a worldly life, then we are distancing ourselves from God.  We are rebelling against God.  We cannot live a rebellious life and at the same time live a godly life, it just doesn’t work!  Sin blocks communication with God.  We must first remove the sin from our lives, repent of it, and return to worshiping and praising God on a daily basis.  We must give Him thanks and honor on a daily basis.  Then and only then can we hear God speaking to us.

Or perhaps they are just not listening.  It just may be that they are doing all of the talking and not listening to what God is telling them.  I think at times we all find ourselves guilty of this.  Telling God all of our problems, asking for things, and not taking the time to just listen to what God has to say.

It may be that believers are faithful to God on a daily basis, but they have never really learned how to hear from God.  God can speak to us in many different ways.  He can speak to us in our heart, in our mind, and in our spirit.  He can speak to us audibly, however, I believe this is rare.  He can speak to us in dreams and visions.  He can speak to us through other people, through the radio or television.  He can speak to us through preachers.  He can and often speaks to us through books, especially His word.  He can speak to us through circumstances and through signs.  God can speak to us in many different ways, that’s my point.  We just need to be in tune with God and learn to listen.

Each and every one of us as believers in Jesus Christ has a calling.  Follow the Lord’s lead and you will find yours!  It may be as a preacher, or a counselor.  It may be helping out at the church or the nursing home.  It may be right where you work or live.  The bottom line is spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, sharing His love, mercy, and forgiveness, whereby we give glory and honor to God.

God bless my friends!  Maranatha!

  1. Hi Gordon,
I do believe God has given you this assignment to bring Glory to Him and to make society aware of where we are in Prophecy. It is not a question of Time, but we are told to WATCH. For one I thank you for all the work you do to make us aware of what is happening in this chaotic world today. May our Lord continue to Bless you and your ministry.
I do not know if you need (or even want) my information below so I will leave it blank for now. I do visit here at least 2 or 3 times a day so I will be back.
