For the love of God

In God we trust copy

Commentary By:  Gordon King

What motivates and drives you?  Where do you derive your ambitions from?  Is it a job, a new car, or perhaps a house?  Maybe you’re driven to finding a mate?  Or perhaps you find solace in becoming financially independent.  Whatever the reason, could it be that maybe it stems from the wrong place?  That maybe it’s out of alignment with what truly matters?

If what you desire is coming from the center of “self”, then perhaps you need to rethink, to reevaluate your ambitions.  Perhaps you need to consider what it is that you truly want and for what reasons.  I think that it’s time for all of us to check our hearts and minds, to assess the reasons that are within us.

What truly matters is not the house, or the car, not the job or the income.  It’s not even the mate.  Although these things do matter, don’t get me wrong here.  But we must first see what is the ultimate truth, the highest value, the most intimate of all.  That my friends is Jesus Christ!

What should be number one in our lives, “Numero-Uno”, is our relationship with Jesus Christ.  He is what matters the most, He is who we should value more than anything else.  Our love for God should be at the top of our list.  Our hearts should be aching to be in a relationship with Him, to love Him more than we love ourselves, or anyone, anything else!  This my friends is “Number One”!

Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength.  This is the first and greatest of all commandments.

Mark 12:29-31

‘Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” ‘

The second is to love you neighbor as yourself.  This means to love others, not just your neighbor, as you love yourself.  Jesus wants us to love everyone as we love ourselves, including our enemies.

We are to go out, into the world and share the love of Jesus.  To show kindness, gentleness, and patience.  To have mercy, forgiveness, and self-control.  This is Christianity.  This is knowing God and having His attributes within us.

The world is a rough place, full of hatred, evil and violence, yet we are to be just the opposite of these things.  This can only be done when we have placed our trust in Jesus.  When we have given our lives to Him, and have taken upon us His life.  There is no other way my friends, no other!  He is the One working within us and through us.

So things in this life do matter to some extent, as do the relationships that we form.  However, they should not be placed at the top of the list.  This spot must always be for our Lord and Savior, first and foremost.

There are those in the world who do not yet know the love of Christ.  They do not know that Jesus is the only way, that without Him they are already condemned.  Yet, there are still others who do know yet choose not to accept Him.  For them, they have made a grave mistake.  They know but do not believe, they know but walk away, they have chosen the wide path, the path of unrighteousness.  They have hardened their hearts and blinded their eyes, but there is still hope while they are physically alive and have the ability to make a decision for themselves.

The love of God in all things, in all our ways, and in all of our thoughts.  This is the way.  Reaching the lost in truth, love, mercy, and forgiveness.

Having dreams and ambitions in and of itself is not a bad thing, as long as we first place our faith and trust in God Almighty.  We should trust Him in all things, walk in His ways, on His path, with a pure heart, and a love for God first.  This is a good thing and He shall surely bless us!  Amen

Lord God Almighty I come to You in prayer.  Listen oh Lord, as I pray for my friends, and as I pray for the lost.  I come to You in love and devotion.  I ask You to give us a sound mind, a pure heart, and a desire to love You more each and everyday.  I pray You give us the power, the strength, and the courage to love those who hate us, those who come against us in persecution.  I pray for our enemies to have visions of the truth, for You to soften their hearts and to remove the scales from their eyes.  I pray for them to come to You in repentance, in belief, in faith, and to receive Your gift of grace.  I give You thanks in all things.  In Jesus holy name I pray, Amen

God bless my friends!

  1. Amen.
    Very well written Gordon.
We must always remember this, especially when we are at our lowest, when we are knocked-out with troubles, pain and sorrow in our lives. We must remember the Good Lord never gives us anything He doesn’t think we can handle. So when we find ourselves down and out we must get up, dust ourselves and move on. Trust and faith always in Him who carries us and gives the power to forge ahead, with malice toward none but love for all. Ultimately the power of LOVE conquers evil. The Scriptures tells us to expect a good end. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope Then you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity;..” Jeremiah 29:11-14 God bless us all.
Thank you G. for reminding us. Come Lord Jesus, come.
