16 people have died of the coronavirus in the kingdom since February 11, raising toll to 382

(SOURCE) Deaths from the MERS virus have surged in Saudi Arabia, Health Ministry figures showed on Friday, after authorities warned of a seasonal increase in Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).

The ministry recorded five deaths on Thursday alone, bringing to 16 the number since February 11.

That figure compares with a single death from the virus in the first 10 days of the month.

Saudi Arabia is the country which has been hardest hit by the MERS virus, which was first identified in 2012. A total of 899 people have been infected in the kingdom, of whom 382 have died.

Doctor Abdul Aziz bin Saeed, who heads the center coordinating the ministry’s response to MERS, warned earlier this month that a surge in cases typically occurs around this time of year, because of the risks posed by newborn camels.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has cited the preliminary results of studies indicating that people working with camels are at increased risk of infection from MERS-CoV, and young camels are particularly susceptible.

Saeed said, “You have more infected camels right now circulating.”

The ministry reported new cases from across the kingdom. Half of those who died were in their 70s or 80s.

A public awareness campaign is continuing. The WHO urged people working with camels to pay particular attention to personal hygiene.

More than 20 countries have been affected by MERS, but most cases have been linked to the Middle East.

  1. This post Gordon brings to mind, The Pale Horse: “…and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death & Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the forth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with death and with the BEAST of the earth.” Rev.6:7-8
This is just one of the horses of the Apocalypse…
New epidemics have sprung up since HIV couldn’t be identified to now – ebola, cow & bird diseases, childhood diseases like measles, mumps, influenza, malaria, among others making a comeback, MARS, viruses that can’t be cured, contained or eradicated, and the list continues to grow abroad and in our own country… “All these are the beginning of sorrows.” Matt. 24:8.
Yet, science has increase so much, that pharmaceutical drugs have the answers to cure anything, but in most cases they only keep it at bay. Still some scientist have gone back to the basics of the Holy Scriptures, with proper diet of fruits and vegetables and exercise many diseases can be eradicated. But that manual has been put out to pasture as old sayings, not to be believed. And still the truth in it sets people free from the bondage that hold us back in so many ways. Incredible.
God bless us all to open Your Word and keep what is written within its pages sealed in our hearts. Renew us physically, mentally and especially spiritually, Father. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
    Maranatha! Thank you Gordon.

  2. Thanks SweetJava. It seems as though these horses mentioned in the book of Revelation have already appeared, or is this only a precursor of what is to come? God bless

  3. Hi Gordon, I believe its a precursor (the birth pangs) of what’s to come; It’s Matthew 24 that coincides with Revelation’s chapter 6: the Seals / Horsemen, intensifying. In other words a tiny type, it will be growing worst as time moves on. Let’s be honest we’re seeing it happen. The world’s conditions will become more serious and awful, as the horsemen are let loose: false religions, wars, famine and diseases to awaken man, but man refuses to accept Jesus’ call or warnings. The stage is set, the curtain is unveiled. Take heed and escape through the word of God, through prayer. A firm reliance in Jesus is our only way of escape. We must dust off our Bibles. We must pray it doesn’t catch us asleep, pray it’s not in winter or on the Sabbath (God’s true day of rest), pray for family, friends, neighbors, country, all in the name of Our precious Redeemer and Lord. He protects those who rely on Him, trust in Him.
For it is written and it is happening… History is repeating itself for the last time…
Personally, I’m looking forward to the white horse of Revelation’s 19:11 “…And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True…” Do all you can to be on the side of love and peace. God bless.
