Commentary By: Gordon King
True and lasting “peace and comfort” come only from God. Jesus is the Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.“
We all shall go through times of tribulation, of heart ache, grief, and mourning. This is a fact of being human. Yet, many of us find it difficult at times to endure. Even though we are saved, we have placed our trust and faith in Jesus Christ, there are times which seem too much to bear.
We must remember God’s promises to us. We must remember that no matter what happens, that He loves us dearly and is always with us. It is by His mercy and forgiveness, His loving kindness, that He bestows upon us His peace and comfort in times of difficulty. It is in Him, by Him, and only through Him that we have true peace and comfort.
There are many verses in the bible which tell us of God’s assurances to give us peace and comfort.
John 14:27
Colossians 3:15
2 Thessalonians 3:16
Philippians 4:6-7
Psalm 23:4
Psalm 46:1-3
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Matthew 5:4
Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
When you are feeling down and out, like the world is closing in on you, rest assured that God is with you. That He will give you the peace and comfort you need when you need it. His words are true, His promises to us are true. He is faithful, loving and kind. We are His children, His prized possessions. He does not want to see us suffer, but to be with us during difficult times.
So the next time you feel discouraged, overwhelmed, or grief-stricken, remember God’s words to us. They are living words, and shall give you the peace and comfort you need when you need it.
God bless my friends! May the Lord God Almighty give you the peace and comfort which only He can! Amen
Great post! I am going to write these down and hang them all over my house. Too many times praying and giving all my worries and strife to God takes me too long when he should be the first place I go. Very needed at this moment as I have court on Wednesday for custody of my children. Thank you for the encouragement!
In his grip,
Rebecca
Thank you Rebecca. We all need peace and comfort, we should always turn to our Father in heaven. I will be praying for you sister! God bless
How right you are Gordon. Jesus is the only one who can give you that inner peace, tranquility while the world spins out of control. He’s the only one who gives you the power to overcome any distress in your life. Jesus is our only Passover lamb (1Peter 1:18-19). And every trial and tribulation we go through only makes us strong. We are not to give up but hang on, for this too (the trials & sorrows) will pass over us, IF we believe in the Almighty. He will give us the strength to carry-on, ours is to trust and have faith. The evil one will shortly be making his presence known in this world as the imitator of Our True Savior. He will be doing all kinds of signs, wonders & miracles, that people will flock to him thinking he is the messiah talked about. But true believers, the elect will know he’s the impostor. Why? How? because reading the Holy Scriptures tells us the signs and times of the seasons; The truth of the Scriptures’ tells us he’s to come before Jesus himself.. It is written the evil one will have his way for 42 months (Rev.13). We need to comprehend & be aware of this fact, not be caught off guard, not be caught up in the frenzy of his disguise. We are to have our armor on and shine our light ever brighter. For as He protected his own of ages past, he will protect us as well. Knowing Jesus is ALWAYS on our side. He has won the war of life and death and holds the keys to both. By humbly (praying) asking Jesus into your heart, while the doors of grace is still open, HE will give you the inner peace we so desperately need. The choice is ours to make.
Thank you Gordon for this message of hope. Keep looking up our redemption draws near… God bless.
Amen!
