Take the time to reflect!

Commentary By:  Gordon King

Sorry for the lack of posts the past couple of days, I have been extremely busy!  The Lord is good and He shall provide, including more time (or will He?).

I felt the need to write this post rather than articles today, since my time for now is limited.

I have something weighing on my heart that I want to share.  Something which I feel is extremely important.

Our time here on earth is but a short stay.  Just a mere twinkle in the scheme of eternity.  The days roll into weeks and the weeks into years.  Before you know it your life has passed you by.  And time is actually moving faster than it ever has before.

Our lives are filled with all sorts of activities, working, entertainment, relaxation, shopping, cleaning, etc.  We get so caught up in all of these daily events, that we often forget what is of the most importance in life.  That is love.  Loving those around us with all that we can muster.  Loving those who are mean or cruel to us.  Loving the saved, and yes, loving the lost.  Love is the most important thing of all!

Remember, God is Love!  His essence is Love, He is a Spirit of Love.  He abides in us, and us in Him.  Therefore we must also be filled with Love.  We should emanate the essence of God, Love!  Love is light, it shines in the darkness, it overpowers the evil and pushes it away.

There are many ways to share and to show our love.  We can give our time, our money, or our talents in many different ways.  We can listen, we can teach, and we can just be there.  We don’t always have to be doing something or saying anything, just our presence can make a difference and leave an impression.  We can help, we can care, we can have empathy for the hurting.  This is love.  This is what we can do, what we must do as children of the Most High God of the Universe, Jesus Christ!

As my earthly father has become ill, I have reflected over the times that we have shared together.  Over the good times and the bad.  And the one thing that really strikes me to the core is that I wish I had spent more time with him.  I wish that I lived closer to him for more of my life.  I wish that we had gone fishing together more often, spent more time barbecuing together, just being together.  This is my wish, one that I cannot change.

Try not to get too involved in your daily life, that you forget or just don’t take the time to spend with those that you love.  Take an extra minute to give them a hug and tell them that you love them!  Be caring, thoughtful and kind.  Put aside petty arguments and disagreements.  What does it matter in the end?!  When all is done, after life has passed you by, the only thing that really matters is love!  The time you spend with others, giving, sharing, laughing, helping.  Those are the things that really matter.

Homes will decay, money will disappear, and jobs will vanish, but love will never end or cease to exist!

Take a moment and reflect on what is really important in life.  If this were your last day on earth, what would be most important to you?  These are the things you should be most focused on.  We don’t know how much time we have been allotted, or when the rapture of the church will be.  Therefore, let us all take the time to share the love of God.  For this is one of His greatest commandments!

Peace, comfort, and blessings to you all!  Amen

  1. Gordon, your article surely makes me consider and appreciate and show love to those God has placed in my life. Regardless of wealth, fame, status, or power, God allows all of us only a very short visitation right here on His earth. James 4:14 says” Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” My love for others needs fuel added to it constantly, it is like a fire that must stay lit with oil to burn. There must be a flame, a light that shines to those who I say I love, I must in some way demonstrate that love before time runs out for me and for them. Even though I know that I am saved and going to heaven when I die, this physical life is the only opportunity I have to tell my little 10 yr grandson about Jesus, to share time and pray with and for him. If I’m the only one who will tell him about Jesus then God has given me a great purpose here to do just that and I am not going to miss out on that opportunity.
There are so many tragedies going on constantly in the world and we all know that it is getting worse by the moment. However in my heart and with my friends, we pray for the lost to be saved, for broken lives and marriages to be healed, for health and blessings to be restored. It seems that on every scale whether small or great, the need to love others is real and there are many opportunities.

  2. Time is short and you are so right we must take the time to love one another. God is love.
I pray your father is feeling better, Gordon. God bless.

  3. Thank you SweetJava! My father is now unresponsive in the hospital and will most likely be placed on palliative care as of today. The doctor says that he probably only has a couple of more days left before he passes on. I pray the he passes quickly to reduce his suffering and to be with Jesus in heaven.
    God bless
