GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A mother accused of throwing her son to his death from an Oregon bridge posted cheery videos on YouTube nearly a year ago of her 6-year-old boy holding a stuffed toy lion while tossing coins in a fountain to make a wish.

As darkness fell Monday, Jillian McCabe parked her car at the north end of the picturesque Yaquina Bay Bridge in the coastal Oregon town of Newport, took her son in her arms, carried him to the middle of the span and threw him to his death in the water below, a police affidavit said.

Then she dialed 911 on her cellphone.

“I just threw my son over the Yaquina Bay Bridge,” McCabe told the dispatcher, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by police Tuesday.

She described her son, London Grey McCabe, and the clothes he was wearing, saying he was in the water and gone. Later that night, a body was reported in the water at a bayside resort about a mile from the bridge, and police said it was that of the kindergartner.

“It’s a great tragedy,” said the boy’s great aunt, Tanya McCabe.

Attorneys appointed to represent Jillian McCabe did not return calls seeking comment.

Her brother-in-law, Andrew McCabe, confirmed that she had written an appeal on, a crowdfunding website. In it she described caring for her autistic son and her husband, Matt, who has been unable to work at his business doing email campaigns since developing multiple sclerosis and a mass on his brain stem.

The appeal ended eight months ago after raising $6,831 toward a goal of $50,000.

“If you are a praying person, pray for us,” Jillian McCabe wrote. “I love my husband and he has taken care of myself and my son for years and years and now it’s time for me to take the helm. I am scared and I am reaching out.”

  1. This is a real heart-ripper Gordon. Human suffering and great tragedies have been a part of life from the beginning. However, if anyone can read this story and not have a greater desire for Christ to return and usher in His kingdom of peace and righteousness then do some serious thinking about possibility of more people suffering and doing the same types of things as Jillian. Please dear Lord bring hope to the hopeless, comfort the hurting. (maranatha)

  2. One more comment regarding this story. So many people are saying that the extension of so called blessings in our nation is God’s granting His restpid and mercy. The problem is that they can’t see through the fog of the expodential increase of evil. I am not putting one iota of hope in what has happened in the last election, increase of petroleum production or anything that is perceived as a blessing. We have sewn the wind and are now reaping the whirlwind. We have brought all this evil on ourselves because we have told God to get our of our nation, schools and government. God’s greatest gesture of mercy and love would be for Jesus to come and rapture his church and usher in His Kingdom. I humbly realize that God has His timing and is sovereign and His plan will come to past in His good timing. Jesus taught us to pray for His “kingdom to come” and for this I pray.

  3. Very tragic story, yet a true representation of what is happening in our world. The evil is becoming greater and much more frequent. My prayers are as yours, come quickly Lord Jesus!

  4. How can you say she is evil and anti-christian?
All of us are sinners, all of us are imperfect….
Maybe when you’ve been completely overwhelmed in your life with such grief and suffering, you might end up doing something you never thought you ever would….
Maybe she also felt it was better for him to go than to live and struggle with autism for whatever reason, she couldn’t handle it.
And thinking that it would be better if he didn’t live on that way, she wouldn’t think to put him up for adoption instead…. especially if she is overcome with severe mental anguish….
In reality it’s just a tragic situation, she is not evil…she just didn’t have the ability to handle that much.

In the reality of a truly loving God though, a child should not be born with autism to begin with….
Her husband should not have developed multiple sclerosis and mass on his brain stem…
What do those things teach a person? People can already learn sin is wrong and evil from much simpler problems… so why cause such severe and debilitating suffering to a person?
There is no reason for it… it just happens randomly…. maybe from sins of the past causing human biology to be riddled with diseases… but how is that fair for people of today? How can a person truly repent of their own sins in life, and start fresh with God if they continue to be tortured by such problems? Why isn’t God there protecting them?

  5. This story is a sign of the times we are now living in, just as the bible tells us. We are told to watch for such signs, for the way people act. This is an evil act, no way around it. Whether or not she is a Christian, only God knows for sure. You’re right, we are all sinners, but that does not excuse such acts of violence.

The point is, that the closer we get to Christ’s return, the more we will see such stories arise. The more wicked and evil the world will become.

Life is not fair anonymous, no one said that it is. Humans have caused this suffering to come upon us for the sin that we have done. We are now all born with a sinful nature. This is not from God. This was not how it originally worked or was meant to be. It all started with humans sinning, rebelling against God.

Sometimes He allows pain and suffering to happen in order for people to come to their knees in humility, to break down in repentance, and to ask Him for help. To seek Him with all that we have, to believe in Him, to accept Him.

But we must not forget that there is evil in the world, there are evil and demonic spirits creating pain, suffering, hatred, and discontent. They are real and in the world. But God is greater than he who is in the world.

Believe it or not! We all have a choice to make.

    God Bless!
