CAMARILLO (CBSLA.com) — A Ventura County Sheriff’s deputy was killed early Tuesday morning by a a suspected DUI driver on the northbound Ventura (101) Freeway.
The 41-year-old deputy was conducting a traffic stop when he and his patrol car were struck by a another vehicle around 1:15 a.m. near Lewis Road exit in Camarillo, officials said.
“The motorist who struck the deputy was unrelated to the traffic stop,” the VCSO said.
The driver fled the scene but was involved in a solo-vehicle crash two miles away near Las Posas Road. He suffered minor injuries and was arrested for felony DUI by the California Highway Patrol.
