All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God!

Jesus on the cross copy

Commentary By:  Gordon King

Born-again, Spirit-filled, child of God.  Christianity, a new life, a new future, and a new beginning!  What a wonderful thing it is to be a Christian, a child of the Almighty God of the universe!  Forever saved, forgiven, and living eternally with our heavenly Father!  It’s a wonderful and magnificent thing!

As Christians we must not feel that since we are saved and have received the gift of eternal life, that we are better than others.  That because we are forgiven, we may have a “better than thou” attitude.  This reasoning is flawed, faulty, and could be further from the truth!

Just because we are saved, that God has had great mercy and forgiveness upon us, does not mean that for some supernatural reason we are better than anyone else!  This is just not the case my friends.  It’s faulty logic and reasoning, and straight from the pit of hell.  We are only found righteous by our heavenly Father through the precious blood of Jesus!  That’s the only reason.

Do not be deceived into believing that you are better than anyone else.  You’re not!  We all have sinned, and we all sin.  We all fall short of God’s glory, of His standard for perfection.  As hard as we try we are still tempted and at times fall into sin.  Big sin, small sin, what’s the difference if it’s sin?  Really?!  As Christians we sin, but we are forgiven, that’s the difference.  Not that we are not striving to be more Christ-like and holy, don’t get me wrong here, I’m not saying that.  But we are not perfect, and we still sin, that’s my point.  The only thing that makes us righteous and holy is the blood of Jesus, without it we are like anyone else.  The continual washing away of our sins through the blood of our Savior, nothing of our own doing.

Romans 3:23

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

Let’s not put on pride and arrogance, but instead humble ourselves and submit to others.  Let’s help and serve those who are in need.  For how are we to love those who sin against us if we feel that we are better than they are?  How are we to forgive?

Ephesians 4:32

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

If we are to reach the lost, then we need to love the lost and show them the way.  The way of the truth.  That way is Jesus Christ!  For Jesus said to love your enemies and bless them that curse you.

Matthew 5:44

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you”

It’s not always easy to love someone who hates you and persecutes you.  But, this is what our Lord tells us to do.  He also tells us that when we are persecuted for His namesake, that we should rejoice and be exceedingly glad for our reward in heaven is great!

Matthew 5:11-12

11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

It’s a wonderful thing to be a Christian.  It’s a holy and righteous thing.  In order to serve the Lord and perform His will in our lives we need to humble ourselves before Him.  We need to submit to others through love, kindness, helpfulness, mercy, and forgiveness.  This is bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit of God.  It’s shining our light into a dark world, a lost world.  It is showing them the way, the truth, and the life.

I just know someone is going to take what I have written and misinterpret what I am meaning to say.  My point is that if you take Jesus away, we are all the same.  No one is better than another and we must not forget that.  Sure, some people’s sin seems greater than others, but to God it’s still sin.  So we are all sinners and unworthy of His mercy, yet He gives it to us freely if we only believe and accept it.

Being saved, being a Christian is truly a blessing!  We have been given many gifts from the Lord.  We have been shown great mercy and forgiveness although we are undeserving of it.  Let us go out and show the unsaved that they are loved, that they can also be forgiven.  Remember, we all have sinned, we are all sinners.  Let us have mercy and show God’s love to one another and to a lost world.

It is written:  “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”      Matthew 6:14-15

God bless my friends, may the Lord of the universe be your guide, your strength, and your light!  Amen

  1. Wow! Gordon you’ve read my mind &/or the Good Lord has planted a seed in each of us…
This is the reason why we must pick up our cross daily and carry-on, there’s not a single person among us who’s perfect. Jesus wants us to focus on the good not on the chaos around us (the chaos has long been predicted and it’s showing its ugly head stronger then ever; shouldn’t surprise us that it’s happening.). We are in the world but not OF the world, and so the world does not understand us. We must show ourselves to be true Christians by our actions and mannerism, that produces the Fruits of the Spirit. In this way Jesus’ love and the gospel is ‘paid forward’. God bless us all.

    • It’s amazing how the Lord works isn’t it? Most of the time He tells us things with a very quiet voice, yet strong and convicting. Apparently He’s giving us the same message! And I bet we’re not the only ones. You’re right SweetJava, we need to try and focus on the good of people, but even more than that, we need to love them nonetheless. Because they are human, and because they are sinners, because they are unbelievers. All of us need Jesus!
      God bless my friend.
