Commentary By: Gordon King
As Christians we are indwelt with and led by the Holy Spirit of God. His Spirit lives within us, and as I believe to be the truth, shall never leave us. We are saved once, born again, and sealed by the Holy Spirit of God Almighty, one time and for all of eternity. Once saved, always saved!
2 Corinthians 1:22
“And who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”
There are times however, that even believers sin, we make mistakes, and do not always yield to His Spirit. But does this mean that we are no longer indwelt with His Spirit? I believe not. As Christians, once we are saved we are always saved and have God’s Spirit within us. He has sealed us with His Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our eternal salvation.
“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 Who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”
Satan would like us to believe otherwise. While we feel convicted of our sin, worried that God will not love us the same, Satan will plant lies within our minds. He will attempt to lead us to believe that God no longer loves us the same, and that we will lose our salvation. This is nonsense and a great lie!
There is nothing in this world that can save us, other than Jesus Christ! By the same token, there is nothing in this world that we could do to lose our salvation, or to change how much God loves us. He loves us dearly, more than we could ever know. Nothing that we could do or not do will ever change that. He loves us the same yesterday, as He does today, as He will tomorrow!
“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him”
What in this world can we do in order to be saved? There’s nothing we can do to earn eternal life. By the same token, there’s nothing we can do to lose our salvation. We were born with a sinful nature and a sinful heart. If God gave us eternal salvation while we were yet sinners, why would He take it away from us for sinning as believers? He loved us dearly as sinners, and He continues to love us just as much as believers whether we sin or not.
1 John 1:8
“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
Satan has a way of deceiving, yes even the saved. He shall cause many of us to fall away from the faith, to lose heart, and to become a less powerful agent for the Lord. This is part of his plan, to deceive even the elect. He hates it when true believers in Christ evangelize for the Lord. When Christians pray to God, when we live holy and righteous lives. He absolutely hates it!
As children of the Most High God of the universe, we must be strong, bold, and courageous. We must know that the Lord will never leave us nor forsake us. That He is always with us in both good times and bad. That He will always love us just the same, whether we are righteous and holy, or if we stumble and fall.
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
If we were of the belief that God did not love us as much when we sinned, or that we could lose our salvation if we sinned or fell away from our faith, then what kind of Christians would we be? How effective would our ministry for the Lord be? Not very effective at all if you ask me! We would always be wondering am I good enough? Does the Lord still love me? Am I still saved? What must I do for the Lord to accept me back? Remember, we are not saved by anything that we ourselves have done, but by the grace of God! We are not good enough, never have been, nor ever will be.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,”
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
It’s not about us, and what we can do, or what we have done, it’s about Him, always has been, always will be! It’s His loving grace and mercy upon us that saves us, nothing of ourselves. God is love! His love is unending, unconditional, and all-encompassing. His Spirit fills us with His love, to shine forth through us as the light of the world. We are His children, as newborn babies in the arms of their mothers, innocent in His eyes, unblemished and pure. Our sin debt has been paid, once and for all through the blood of Jesus.
Our faith must be strong, we must be bold, to go where God leads us, to do what He asks of us. It’s not His purpose to build a church of weak believers, unsure of their salvation. But a church of faith, of love, peace, boldness, and assurance of His promises. The only way that we can be assured of such things is to know that God always loves us the same, regardless of what we do. That we have eternal salvation without the ability to lose it. We are sealed forever by His Holy Spirit within us.
“Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Let’s not be weak and faithless, wondering and unsure. Let us walk in the spirit, by the guidance and wisdom of the Holy Spirit within us. Let us know what God has done for us, and that He loves us all dearly. We are His elect, chosen before the creation of the world.
“Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love”
Our finite human minds cannot comprehend the immensity of God’s love for us. His love surpasses all that is humanly possible. He has chosen us before we were born, to be His children for eternity. Ours is not to question why, but to love Him back in return. To give Him the glory, the honor, the praise, and the thanks that He deserves. We shall serve Him now and forever more! Amen
God Bless my friends, until next time!
