LAHORE, Pakistan – Police and a defense lawyer say a woman has been stoned to death by her family in front of a Pakistan high court for marrying the man she loves.
Police official Naseem Butt says nearly 20 members of the woman’s family attacked her and her husband with sticks and bricks in broad daylight Tuesday before a crowd of onlookers in front of the high court of Lahore.
He says Farzana Parveen, 25, had married Mohammad Iqbal, with whom she had been engaged for years in opposition to her family.
Her lawyer Mustafa Kharal says her father had filed an abduction case against her husband, which the couple was contesting.
Arranged marriages are the norm among conservative Pakistanis, who view marriage for love as a transgression.

I’ve been having serious conversations with myself regarding this story since it made news. A pregnant wife being literally butchered to death by the men in her own family in public view. As upset as I am over this incident, I am as well upset over a 22 year old college student in affluent Santa Barbara Calif, butchering 3 of his housemates with a knife then randomly killing 3 other people with a handgun and wounding many others. I am as equally upset over the nearly 12,000 butcherings of innocent unborn babys by abortion doctors in this country since the story of the stoning. The (honor killing) stoning to death of the woman happened in a far away mid eastern country which would make most of us feel detached personally. However, the violent brutality that this country inflicts on its own should make us have a conscience for the blood guilt this nation is responsible for. Dear God in heaven do as much as in your merciful compassion to cause this nation America to see the path of destruction that it is on and to repent and turn in humble contrition to obedience to your commandments.
