Palm Sunday.  The beginning of the week in which Jesus Christ would be sacrificed on the cross, buried in a tomb, and rise from the dead after three days.  The day that our Lord and Savior would ride into Jerusalem to celebrate Passover, while riding on the back of a donkey, the King of kings, the Lord of lords.  Coming in peace, love, and hope.  Humbling Himself before the nation of Israel.

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.”

Matthew 21

The Triumphal Entry

21 ‘Now when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”

All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:

“Tell the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.’”

So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:

“Hosanna to the Son of David!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Hosanna in the highest!”

10 And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”

11 So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”’

Many did not believe that Jesus was the Messiah spoken of in the Old Testament.  He did not meet the expectations of whom they believed their King should be.  He did not come with great force and to conquer their enemies.  But instead came in quiet and peacefully.  Yet, many today still do not believe that Jesus is Lord.  As He once again does not meet the expectations of whom they believe God should be.

Who do you believe Jesus is?  Just a man, merely a prophet, or God?

Whatever you believe or don’t believe, the truth is the truth.  You cannot change it.

Let us take this time to think about Jesus and what He has done for us.  What He has taken upon Himself in order to save us and give us eternal life.  The pain, suffering, and torment in which the innocent, blameless, and perfect Son of God endured for us.

  2. Most people at the time Jesus rode into Jerusalem did not believe that He was God. The same is true of today. Most people don’t believe that Jesus is God. They believe as those before them believed, that if Jesus were God, then he would have ruled the world with an iron fist, not with peace and humility.

    That He would not let evil happen in the world, would not allow pain and suffering. I am not speaking of believer’s in Christ, but of the unbelievers.

  3. According to Scriptures God is an eternal Spirit, so has no flesh, no blood, no bones, and could not be seen by man or they would die. Jesus could be seen by many who did not die after they saw him. God declared the Nazarene to be His son. Lots of people do not want to accept this and either do not believe in a god or the God at all or make Jesus into their god or saying he is The God.

    Jesus was tempted, could sin but did not. God can not be tempted nor sin. Jesus also never claimed to be God, who he always said was greater than him and that he could not do any thing without Him.

    What would the use be of a God coming to the earth and doing as if He could die? Why would He have waited so long and why did He want to put up such a charade, instead of taking care of it all at the garden of Eden straight away?

  4. Did Jesus ever say the exact words “I am God?”

    No, Jesus never said the exact three words, “I am God”. But Jesus also never said the exact four words, “I am a prophet” or the exact four words “I am a man,” but we know he was both a prophet and a man. It is not necessary for Jesus to say the exact phrase “I am a man” for us to know that he was a man. Likewise, it is not necessary for Jesus to utter the exact three words “I am God” in order for us to determine whether or not he is divine. Jesus may not have said the exact sentence “I am God” but he did claim the divine name for himself (Exo. 3:14 with John 8:58) and he also received worship (Matt. 2:2; 14:33; 28:9; John 9:35-38).

    When Moses was up at the Mount speaking to God, Moses asked God what his name was. God said, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel,’ ‘I AM has sent me to you,’ (Exodus 3:14). In John 8:58 Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” Right after this the Jews picked up stones to throw at him. Later, in John 10:30-33 Jesus claimed to be one with the Father and the Jews wanted to stone him again because they said to Jesus, “You, being a man, make yourself out to be God.” Jesus had claimed the divine name for his own and the Jews wanted to kill him for it. Therefore, from Jesus’ own mouth we see that he was claiming to be God.
    The words “I am”

    Now please understand that anyone can say the words “I am” and it does not mean that he is claiming to be God. Someone could say, “I am over here.” That is not claiming the divine name. Likewise, someone could say, “I am hungry,” or “I am sick.” Neither example is claiming divinity, because the use of the term “I am” in context clearly shows us that is not what is occurring. But, in John 8:58 when Jesus said “before Abraham was born, I am,” the Jews knew exactly what he was saying. Notice that he says before Abraham was born (using the past tense) and then he switches to the present tense when he says “I am.” Jesus switches tenses of the verbs on purpose so that when he does so in the context of referencing Abraham, Jesus is clearly drawing the Jews’ attention to the Old Testament Scriptures and then using a present tense form of the verb “to be” by saying “I AM”. Someone who says “I am hungry” is not drawing attention to the Old Testament Scriptures for context.

    Jesus was clearly causing the Jews to reflect upon the divine name “I am” that Jesus used for himself. We know that they understood this because as is said above, they said, “You, being a man, make yourself out to be God,” (John 10:33).
    The Muslims agree with the Jews

    But what is noteworthy is that the Jews, like the Muslims, deny that Jesus is God in flesh. Therefore, the Muslims are united with the Jewish people in denying who Jesus claimed to be, the “I am.”

    It is not necessary that Jesus say a certain phrase in order for the truth of who he is to be made clear. The issue is not if he speaks a certain sentence that we construct in present terms in order to satisfy our theological demands. The issue is what did Jesus say in the context and culture of the time in which he spoke.

    Finally, we know that Jesus is God in flesh because the Bible tells us so.

    John 1:1, 14, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…14And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
    John 20:28-29, “Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”
    Heb. 1:8, “But of the Son He says, ‘Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom.'”


    The Godhead – Father, Son and Holy Spirit

    God exists in three Persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is called the doctrine of the Trinity. Although the word Trinity is not in the Bible, it expresses a scriptural truth; in fact, it was coined by one of the early Latin Christian writers to set forth the truth that God is a Tri-unity of Persons.
    The term Godhead (Godhood) refers to God’s essence or divine Being; and is a proper statement of truth to say that there are three Persons in the Godhead.
    The Old Testament emphasizes the unity of God; that is, it asserts that there is but one God, in contrast to the many false gods of the heathen; nevertheless, there are intimations in the Old Testament of the fact that God exists in a plurality or Trinity of Persons. For example, the Spirit of God is mentioned in Genesis 1:2; the Son is mentioned in Psalm 2:7, 12; and there are plural expressions in a number of places which show that God is a Trinity.
    “And God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26). The New Testament, while fully recognizing the unity of God, emphasizes the fact of the three Persons.

    Three Persons — One God

    The Bible presents to us a Father who is God (John 3:16), a Son who is God (Philippians 2:5-8; John 1:1), and a Holy Spirit who is God (Acts 5:3, 4); yet these are not three Gods, but one and the same God.
    It is difficult, if not impossible, to explain what the word Person means as applied to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We are accustomed to think of persons as individual human begins, and we know that three persons cannot be one being. The Persons of the Godhead are clearly distinguished from one another in many passages of Scripture; yet they cannot be separated. This truth is beyond complete understanding by our finite minds.
    No illustration of the Trinity will suffice to explain this relationship, but we can perhaps get some help by trying to express the relationship mathematically. Men would ordinarily say of the Persons: one plus one plus one equals three. But it would be more accurate to say: one times one times one equals one, for each of the Persons is fully God in the absolute sense, and the three together are the one self-same God.
    It is not possible for me to explain this truth fully, but it is necessary to know and to state clearly what the Bible actually says.
    Throughout the Scriptures the Gospel message is plain: God the Father sent His Son to redeem fallen man; The Son willingly came to die for the sins of the world; and the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, regenerates the heart by the Word of God which He inspired, takes the things of Christ, and shows them unto us who love Him (see John 16:12-15).
    Colossians 2:9 speaks very plainly: “In him [Christ] dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.”

    Further Bible proof of the Trinity

    I have already alluded to some Bible proofs of the Trinity. One of these is the use of the plural in reference to God. In creating man, God said, “Let us make man in our image” (Genesis 1:26). If there were only one Person in the Godhead, does it not seem unlikely that God would use the words “us” and “our” in this instance? Would He not have been more likely to say, “I will make man in my image”? (see also Genesis 3:22). Again, in Isaiah 6:8 God refers to Himself as “I” and “us”, indicating both unity and plurality in the same Being.
    Another Bible proof of the Trinity which has already been mentioned is the fact that each of the Persons is individually called God.

    Some further proofs may be listed this way:

    1. Comparison of Scripture with Scripture
    The passage in Isaiah 6 mentioned previously is still more interesting and presents a stronger proof of the Trinity when compared with John 12:35-41 and Acts 28:25-27.
    In John 12:35, 35, Christ is speaking about Himself. Verse 37 tells us that the people to whom He spoke did not believe in Him, even through He had performed many miracles before them. Then in verses 38-40 John quotes Isaiah 53:1 and 6:10 (written about 700 years before Christ was born), stating that Isaiah had foretold that some people would not believe in Him. And John says plainly that the God whom Isaiah saw was the Lord Jesus: “Esaias . . . Saw his glory” (v. 41).
    In Acts 28:23 Paul was speaking to the people about Christ, but some of them did not believe in Him. In verses 25-27 Isaiah 6:8-10 is again referred to — this time as the voice of the Holy Spirit (v. 25).
    So we see how this one passage from Isaiah, when compared with these two New Testament references, brings out the truth that there are three Persons in one God.

    2. The Manifestation of the Trinity at the Baptism of Jesus
    Let us turn now to Matthew 3:16, 17. Here we have a beautiful picture painted for us, as well as a proof text given. through we may forget every other Scripture evidence of the Trinity, it will not be easy to forget this if it is once imprinted upon our minds. There is the blessed Jesus, the second Person of the Trinity, standing in the water, having been baptized by John. And now, behold, the heavens open, and the Spirit of God, the third person of the Trinity, descends like a dove upon Jesus. But hearken! A voice is heard from heaven, the voice of the Father, the first Person of the Trinity, saying, “This is my beloved Son!” What clearer and better proof can we have than this that in the Godhead there are three Persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?

    3. Christ’s Declaration regarding the Trinity in His Great Commission to His Disciples
    “Go . . . teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost [Spirit]” (Matthew 28:19).
    If these three were not God, it would not seem right to give each the same dignity and honor. And if they were more than one God, would not Jesus have been likely to say “in the names” instead of only “in the name?”

    4. Paul’s Statement in the Apostolic Benediction
    “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all Amen” (II Corinthians 13:14).
    If these three Persons here mentioned were not equally God it would not seem right to give each of them the same importance. Indeed, would it not be an insult to the true God to do this?
    There are many other similar passages, but these are sufficient for my purpose here.

    Faith believes what the human intellect cannot explain

    “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
    Perhaps after reading and thinking about these statements of the Scripture regarding the Trinity you are ready to exclaim, “This is a great mystery; I cannot understand it!” That is what everyone else says. And we are not required to understand it. He asks us only to believe it on the testimony of His own Word. There are a great many things in the Bible, and out of it, which we believe, but we do not understand. For example, we believe that God created the earth and everything in it, but we do not understand how He did it. Neither do we understand why a little brown see planted in the black soil pushes a little green shoot up through the ground and brings forth a red flower — yet we believe it.
    Then again, let me ask the question: Can you put the whole of the Atlantic Ocean in a teacup? No more can you expect to put the whole of the idea of God into a human brain.
    “Canst thou by searching finding out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea” (Job 11:7-9).
    “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” (Romans 11:33)

  6. What good would it have done for Jesus, if He was not God, to have suffered and died on the cross for our eternal salvaton? It would mean nothing.

  7. When a person answers “I am” when somebody comes in to a place or phones somebody, would you think he is God? You say the context clearly shows us that is not what is occurring, but where do you get it from that it would be a divine name calling by Jesus? It is not because others said “You, being a man, make yourself out to be God, that Jesus said he was God. Jesus said he could do not do anything without God who is greater than him. He also said not that he chose to come but that it was God who sent him and asked him things to accomplish.
    Joh 4:34 AUV-NT Jesus answered them, “My food is doing what God, who sent me, wants me to, and accomplishing His work. (Clearly this verse is talking about two different persons.)
    Mat 7:21 AUV-NT “Not every person who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven; but [only] that person who does what my Father in heaven requires. (Jesus does not say what he requires, but what somebody else requires)
    Joh 14:28-31 AUV-NT You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away and I am returning to you.’ If you [really] loved me, you would have been happy that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am. (29) Now I have told you this, even before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe [in me]. (30) I will not speak with you very much anymore because the ruler of the world [i.e., Satan] is coming, and he has no control over me. (31) But, in order for the world to know that I love the Father, I am [always] doing what the Father commands me to. Let us get up, and leave here.” [i.e., leave the room where they had eaten the Passover meal. See 13:1 with 18:1].

    Many times we do hear that Jesus did not his own will but did that what his heavenly Father asked him to do. Jesus nor his Father told lies, so this includes also that they not told twisted words. In case a child would do something and would say this is not me but my Father or my mother doing, and when it is she who did it would you not call her a liar?

    Did God not tell a lie when He said people could not see Him or they would die, when He would have been Jesus as well?

    You quote John his beginning of his gospel which he wrote in the manner of the Genesis book, talking about the Words God spoke from the beginning; The onset of Creation and now looking at the beginning of the New Creation with the birth of Jesus which was already promised in the Garden of Eden. It was the Word, the Speaking of God, His Promise that became reality. Jesus was the man spoken of by God. He is the Messiah, the Christ so many people waited for.

    Not all gods are the God Creator. Pharaoh, Moses, Angels are called gods and today we still have a lot of people called god (Maradonna, Presley, Spears, Ramsey a.o.) but we can agree they are not the Creator God.

    when we take the original text there is written literally

    “In [the] beginning the Word was, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god.”

    or in the Holy Scriptures book of Yah Chanan (John the apostle of Christ 1:1-3): In the beginning the Word having been and the Word having been unto God and God having been the Word he having been, in the beginning, unto God all through his hand became: and without him not even one being whatever became.   8. Just by finding death for others we can find the love of Christ. Which man would like to die for an other person. Always wanting to do the Will of God, he is the only human being who managed to stay truthful to his God, the God of Abraham and Isaac, the God of Moses and the God of Adam. They did not have Jesus as their God or as their god.

    Joh 5:19 AUV-NT So, Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son [of God] cannot do anything on His own [i.e., independently of the Father]; but [He does] what He sees His Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son also does as well.
    Mat 3:16-17 AUV-NT After Jesus was immersed [by John], He came up out of the water and heaven was opened up before Him and He saw the Holy Spirit from God descending, as a dove, and landing upon Him. (17) Then a voice came out of heaven, saying, “This is my dearly loved Son. I am very pleased with Him.”
    Luk 22:41-42 AUV-NT Then Jesus went away from them about the distance of a stone’s throw and knelt down and prayed, (42) saying, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup [i.e., of suffering] away from me; nevertheless, let it not be what I want, but what you want [for me].”
    In case Jesus is God why does he pray to himself and says “not my will, but yours, be done” and why does he ask why he has abandoned he himself? How can a person leave himself alone or go away from himself or forsake himself, not sitting on the same throne and mediating between himself and others?

    Mat 27:46 EVID And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? [n]
    Act 7:55-56 EVID But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, [g] (56) And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

    Col 2:9 EVID For in him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. does say that fullness of God can be found in Christ Jesus but does not say Jesus is The Divine Creator God.
    In this verse is spoken of the “Godhead” (KJV) = Gr “theotetos”. You follow what most trinitarians will state that it refers to the essence and nature of the Godhead, not just to divine perfections and attributes of divinity. But… according to LS, “theotes” (the nominative form, from which “theotetos” is derived) means “divinity, divine nature.” Being truly “divinity,” or “divine nature,” does not make Jesus as the Son of God coequal and coeternal with the Father, any more than the fact that all humans share “humanity” or “human nature” makes them coequal or all the same age. Paul makes reference to the post-resurrectional state of Jesus, in which he bears a glorified body. This is entirely different to the mortal, pre-resurrectional state of the Messiah. Indeed, that same body is promised to the believers, whose “bodies shall be made like unto his own glorious body” and who “shall be like the angels, who neither marry, nor are given in marriage.” (The angels, of course, are themselves, divine beings; that is to say, they are composed of divine substance. They are not individual “gods”, as the Mormons would have us believe.) Paul uses the expression rather frequently, defining it as a “fulness of Godhood” (theotes, Col_2:9), ie a totality of God’s attributes, something that can dwell “bodily” in Jesus, and which can also dwell in men. The author of Ephesians therefore promises: “That ye might be filled with ALL the fulness of God” (Eph_3:19.) Peter, too, promises that men can one day “participate in the Divine Nature” (2Pe_1:4), and (as John and Paul add) become “like God” (1Jn_3:2), possessing bodies “like unto his glorious body” (Php_3:21), and transformed into the very image of the Lord (2Co_3:18.)

  10. Why did Jesus, after he had been three days in hell, showed to his disciples that he was not a ghost they were seeing and showed the wounds he had from his impalement. In case he is God (a Spirit) and when you take the Holy Spirit also to be a Godhead, than he would have been also the Spirit God and the Holy Spirit God, so would he once more not be telling the truth or twisting words?

  12. Here it talks about being on ein thought, like children and parents can be and should be one.
    The Bible tells us also to become one in Christ, according to your saying Jesus being one with his Father, we having to be one with Christ, would become Christ himself and as such also would become God ourselves.

  13. That is true. And we should be able to go through life accepting people may have different opinions.

    We can only hope that trinitarian and non-trinitarians shall honour the same God as Jews and Muslims, being the God of Abraham, Who created the universe. And that the real believers in that God grow to each other and show the world we have to respect and honour every created being.
