Who is this Jesus?

who is this jesus copyCommentary by:  Gordon King

If you are not a Christian, you may be asking yourself what’s this stuff all about?  God, Jesus?  Just who is this Jesus?

There is much more to the bible and Christianity then I can write about in one article.  So I will try to post the highlights in a brief summary.  Being a Christian is a learning and growing process.  While we are saved instantaneously, we are transformed over time to be more Christ like and holy in the eyes of God.

First off, let me explain what Christianity is:

True Christianity is not about religion.  It’s about having a personal relationship with the God of the universe, walking with God, talking with God, and living with God each and everyday of our lives.  It’s believing that we need God in every aspect of our lives each and everyday.  It’s placing God at the center of our lives and making Him our main focus in life.  It’s about acknowledging that we commit sin in our lives and believing that the only way to heaven is through being saved by Jesus Christ and only Jesus Christ.  It’s about spreading the word of God to unbelievers through truth, love, kindness, peace, mercy and forgiveness.  It’s about helping others in need.  It’s about more of God and less of us.  It’s about becoming more Christ like, more righteous, more holy, more meek, and more humble.  This is true Christianity.  Giving Him thanks, glory and praise each and everyday!

John 14:6

6 ‘Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’

Romans 3:23

23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

Romans 12:2

2 “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Philippians 4:8-9

8 “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”

1 John 2:15-17

15 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

Galatians 5:22-23

22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

John 3:30

30 “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

Romans 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life”.

What does this mean?  God had a son?  What does begotten mean?  What is everlasting life?

Since the beginning of man (Adam) we have all sinned.  All of us.  There is not one of us who is not a sinner.  Not one!  We have been eternally separated from God due to this sin.  This was not God’s plan for us.  Before Adam and Eve sinned, life was perfect.

We need a way back to God, for eternal life, and out of eternal damnation (Hell).  Yes, Hell is a real place, not a metaphor or analogy.  If we do not accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, then we are destined to Hell forever.  God provided a way out for us, that way is Jesus Christ.

Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and sacrificed Himself on the cross for all of our sins.  He was God in the flesh, who came to intercede for the world.  All we need to do is ask God to forgive us of our sins, do our best not to keep committing these sins, believe that He is God, died on the cross, was buried three days, rose from the dead and ascended into heaven to be with the Father.  God is a trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Three different beings, yet all are one.  This is a very difficult concept for human minds to grasp and understand.  Yet, one day we shall all understand.

“Begotten” means to “procreate”, “offspring”.

“Everlasting life” is to live forever in the presence of God, and to worship Him forever.  To live at peace, with love, joy and happiness. To never again experience pain, suffering, or to shed another tear.  We shall live in the beauty and awe of God’s most treasured handiwork.

“Eternal damnation” is living forever in Hell.  Yes Hell is a real place.  It is a place of continual torment, pain, suffering, heat, affliction, evil, demons, loneliness, and heartache.  When you are there, you are there forever, there is no way out, no escape.  You will be eternally separated from God.  Hell is everything God is not, because it is total separation from God.

Revelation 21:4

4 “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Revelation 22:1-5

22 “And he showed me a pureriver of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”

1 Corinthians 2:9

9 But as it is written:

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

2 Corinthians 5:17

17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

This is who Jesus is and what it’s all about.  It is about Him, who He is and what He did for all of us.  He took the sins of the world upon Himself, sacrificed Himself for all of us to be with Him forever!  That is how much God loves us.  He gave His son to be a sacrifice for people who do not deserve it.  How many people would do that?  Sacrifice your child for people who hate you?  That is how much God loves us!  That is how much He desires for all of us to be reunited with Him.

Jesus loves us all and wishes for no one to perish.  He has given Himself as a way out, an escape.  The Great Escape!  All we need to do is accept it as a free gift.  Accept Jesus Christ now as your Lord and Savior.  You will never regret it, on the other hand if you don’t you will regret it for eternity!  That’s a mighty long time.
