Video: Dozens of pilot whales die on beach in New Zealand

Over two dozen whales stranded on a South Island beach in New Zealand have been euthanised.

The county’s Department of Conservation (DOC) said 39 pilot whales washed up on Golden Bay, Farewell Spit, at the weekend and had become trapped by a falling tide.

It said 27 survived until the morning but conservation officials decided to shoot the animals after reflotation appeared impossible.
