(SOURCE) The lockdown put in place this evening at Wingate University near to Charlotte, North Carolina after two people were shot dead and a third airlifted to hospital has been lifted.
Union County Sheriff’s officials issued an ‘all clear’ at the university around 8.45 pm, nearly two and a half hours after the ‘shelter in place’ warning was first issued.
The deadly shooting occurred along E. Wilson Street which is near the entrance to the campus at around 6 pm and two people were confirmed dead at the scene – and authorities indicated that no University students or employees were believed to be involved.
Wingate University issued immediate lockdown procedures for the main campus.
‘Please remain calm,’ an alert sent to student on Wednesday evening stated according to WCNC.Com
‘Move to the nearest building and close and lock all doors and windows. Close all blinds and turn off the lights.’
At around 8.30 pm, Wingate University sent a tweet which stated that the suspects are no on the university campus and that the precautionary lockdown has been lifted.’Law enforcement requests you stay away from the off-campus crime scene east of campus,’ the message posted on the University’s Facebook page stated on Wednesday night.
