Jesse Jackson Jr. officially an inmate at NC federal prison

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) – Former Illinois congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. officially became an inmate at the federal prison in North Carolina as of 10 a.m. CST on Tuesday.

An Atlanta-based law firm confirmed Monday evening that Jackson Jr. reported to a federal correctional facility in Butner, North Carolina to begin serving his sentence. But there may have been a snag with his paperwork overnight.

But as of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Federal Bureau of Prison’s website listed Jackson as “not in custody.” It seemed the processing of this inmate is not yet complete. His attorney is expected to update the situation at a press conference later on Tuesday.

Jackson turned himself in a few days earlier than expected, which helped him avoid the spectacle that accompanied trips to prison by Rod Blagojevich and George Ryan. He’s doing his time for spending hundreds of thousands of dollars from his campaign fund on luxury goods like furs and cashmere capes — the likes of which he won’t see in his new home in prison.
