A New Mexico man is in jail on murder charges, accused of brutally stabbing his wife to death in front of his two children, aged 6 and 12, on Saturday night at a home in Albuquerque.
Police officers found Sandra Ferrales dead with multiple stab wounds in horrific scenes at the house at around 10 pm.
They apprehended 48-year-old Jerry Chavez covered in blood about a block away.
A probable cause statement filed by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department says deputies went to the address after a 12-year-old boy told 911 dispatchers his father was stabbing his mother.
The boy told deputies his father recently told Ferrales he wanted a divorce and moved out.
But he returned at Saturday night and confronted his wife in the shower.
According to reports, Ferrales said ‘you’re not supposed to be here’ when she saw her husband.
Chavez is then accused of repeatedly stabbing the children’s mother in front of the boy and his 6-year-old brother.

When deputies arrived at the house on El Ensueno they found blood in the laundry room, kitchen and on the dining room floor.
The woman had major stab wounds on her back and a large amount of blood was under her body. Officers discovered three bloody knives at the scene.
Sheriff’s Capt. Justin Dunlap says Chavez faces an open count of murder and other charges. Chavez is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The two boys are currently in state custody.Dunlap added: ‘It’s very unfortunate for the kids involved in this case as well as the decedent.’
He continued: ‘Anytime a parent does something like that involving their children while their children are there, a witness at that – it’s unexplainable. I can’t imagine what those kids went through.’

Some of Chavez’s friends and neighbors say that don’t understand what happened with a man they describe as a good Christian.
‘He wasn’t a monster that people think that he was,’ a man known only as RCT told KOB 4. He said Chavez was head usher at the Legacy megachurch in Albuquerque.
‘He used to get his hand and put it on my head and pray over me: God take care of him,’ RCT said.
