Adrian Navarro-Canales, 16, was apprehended at a Las Vegas food court on Wednesday.

A Las Vegas-area teenager accused of stabbing his mother and 9-year-old brother to death has been arrested, authorities said Wednesday.

Authorities released a statement saying Adrian Navarro-Canales, 16, was arrested late Wednesday morning after authorities found him sitting alone in an open-air food court close to the Las Vegas Strip.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that authorities had received a tip about the teen’s whereabouts Tuesday night.

Initially, authorities believed Navarro-Canales was a victim of the brutal slaying, but later named the troubled teen as the suspected murderer of his 40-year-old mother, Elvira Canales-Gomez, and little brother, Cesar.

The bodies of Elvira Canales-Gomez, 40, and Cesar Navarro, 9, were discovered Friday.

Their bloody bodies were discovered Friday after the mother failed to show up for work and her son did not appear at school.

According to reports, Cesar’s body was discovered in a bathtub in their home. The body of Canales-Gomez was found nearby with a knife jutting out of her chest.

Henderson police said that Navarro-Canales dropped out of high school in November.  A cousin said that he had hopes of returning to Mexico.
