Vadodara: Five people died after two seven-storey buildings collapsed in Vadodara district of Gujarat early on Wednesday morning. At least 35-30 people are believed to have been trapped under the debris.

“Eight people have been evacuated, 5 feared dead and around 30 people could be trapped,” said Vinod Rao, collector, Vadodara

“The focus is on rescue operation. The state governmnet has deputed two cabinet rank ministers to oversee the rescue operation,” he said.

Both the buildings were residential and collapsed within a time gap of 20 minutes. However, one building was vacant while the other one was occupied by 12 families.

“The residents of the second building were evacuated the moment the first building collapsed. There are very few chances that anyone would be trapped in the second building,” said Vinod Rai.

The building were constructed around 12 years back.

The incident occurred in Atladara area in Vadodra. The five dead bodies have been removed from the incident site.

The building were constructed by Baroda Development Authority.
