Police are investigating after a 13-year-old girl allegedly told a 12-year-old Indianapolis-area student she would cut off her head and scatter her body parts in her yard.

Indianapolis-area police have launched an investigation after a 13-year-old allegedly threatened to kill another girl on Facebook by cutting off her head and scattering her body parts around her yard.

Officers went to Southport Middle School in Perry Township on Monday after the alleged threats came to light.

The initial reports indicated the alleged target went to Perry Meridian Middle School, but a district spokeswoman corrected that.

The alleged threats targeted a 12-year-old student.

According to the Indianapolis Star, that girl’s father said the threats may have come about following arguments over a boy.

The mother of the suspect dismissed the reported threats as harmless, although her daughter allegedly said she knew “99 ways to kill [you] and never get caught” and that she would kill her by “cutting off her head, putting it on the porch and [scattering] her body parts in her yard.”

According to the Star, the teen’s mother said, “It was a joke, apparently.

“They were joking back and forth with each other, talking about cutting each other’s body parts up or something. I’m not real concerned with it. I don’t think she’s really going to go cut anybody up. She’s a teenager, not a serial killer.”

While the mother of the older girl appears to play down the threats, the 12-year-old’s father told reporters he was concerned at their level of detail.

“It’s shocking. “It’s hard to believe,” the father said.

Police have not said if there will be any charges.
