Pittsburgh police blocked off several streets in the uptown area Tuesday morning after reports of a man on a roof with a gun.
At about 8:30 Tuesday morning, a woman told police her boyfriend had a machine gun and was on the roof of a building on De Ruad Street.
The woman was able to get out of the building and was unhurt.
A Channel 11 News crew at the scene reported a heavy police presence, and investigators told people who live and work in the area to remain indoors.
“My cousin went to the door and they told him to get back inside,” said neighbor Stephanie Beechaum, 64.
She said officers were concentrating on an apartment building.
“I counted 23 people in camo go in with a battering ram,” Beechaum said. She said she didn’t know the people involved.
Investigators said they breached an apartment and were unable to find the reported gunman.
Police shut down a stretch of nearby Forbes Avenue and the intersection of Fifth Avenue at the Birmingham Bridge.
So far, no arrests have been made. No injuries were reported.
