Incredible video footage has been posted online of the massive sandstorm which swept through the south western state of Arizona.
The rolling wall of dust appeared early on Thursday afternoon in southern Pinal County and moved northwest through the towns of Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert.
The phenomenon is caused by sudden winds combined with extremely dry conditions kicking up dust.
The dust storm temporarily grounded some flights out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and knocked out electricity to about 2,000 customers in the San Tan Valley and Queen Creek areas.
Officials at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport halted some flights until wind gusts of up to 60mph subsided.
Salt River Project officials said about 2,000 of their customers in the San Tan Valley and Queen Creek area went without electricity due to the storms and crews were working to restore power.
