America plans to bend knee before God

Time and again in the history of the United States, when the nation faced need or crisis, America’s leaders have called upon the country to turn to its surest hope in darkened days: to bend its knees before Almighty God.

From 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, to President Lincoln’s proclamation of a day of “humiliation, fasting and prayer” in 1863, national prayer has been a rich part of American history.

And in the spirit that prompted President Truman in 1952 to establish a National Day of Prayer and President Reagan in 1988 to designate it as the first Thursday in May, Americans across the fruited plain will participate together again on May 2, 2013, in the annual National Day of Prayer.

“As our nation struggles with continued economic insecurity, vast health-care reform and countless challenges to our constitutional rights, citizens of the United States are preparing to exercise their freedom to gather, worship and pray,” announces the National Day of Prayer Task Force on the event’s official website. “Millions will answer the call to prayer on May 2nd in observance of the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer. Organized events will be held in thousands of public venues where intercession will be made for America and its leadership.”

This year’s theme is “Pray for America,” based on Matthew 12:21, which asserts, “In His Name the nations will put their hope.”

Task Force Chairman Shirley Dobson, wife of Family Talk founder Dr. James Dobson, has said, “The American people continue to be plagued with challenges that defy simple answers, and our hope lies in humbly seeking the Almighty’s guidance, protection and blessing – not only on the National Day of Prayer, but throughout the year.”

Local prayer events will be held throughout the country on May 2, and the task force has established a website for finding and organizing nearby prayer rallies.

Furthermore, Senior Pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship and Founder of Harvest Crusades Greg Laurie will lead a team of prayer warriors with a keynote address on May 2 in Washington, D.C., to be held at the Cannon House Office Building.

Pastor Laurie’s address, furthermore, will be broadcast live through a partnership with GOD TV, available to millions of viewers in more than 200 countries, as well as on DirecTV channel 365 and streamed live on the National Day of Prayer website.

Joining Laurie in the broadcast will be Chairwoman Dobson, Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., Vonette Bright, wife of Campus Crusade for Christ Founder Bill Bright, WND columnist Pat Boone, Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., Wintley Phipps, U.S. Senate Chaplain Barry Black, The Annie Moses Band, Dr. Dick Eastman, David Butts, John Bornschein and more.

“We have lost many of our freedoms in America because we have been asleep,” Dobson insists. “I feel if we do not become involved and support the annual National Day of Prayer, we could end up forfeiting this freedom, too.”

The event marks one of several calls sent across the nation to see the church in America return to God in fulfillment of 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

Sept. 11, 2013, for example, has been set aside as a national day of fasting and prayer to seek healing and restoration.

“A nationwide day of prayer, fasting and humility can have an enormous impact on restoring our country,” declare organizers of the event. “Imagine thousands of churches opening their doors to millions of worshippers who heartily confess their sins, seek forgiveness and pray for salvation and redemption and the restoration of our country.”

“This is a matter between God and His people,” organizers state, referencing 2 Chronicles 7:14. “We’ve got our instructions. God is waiting on us to act – His people. He’s not waiting on the whole world to act. He’s not waiting on a majority of Americans to act. He’s waiting on us. Will we follow His command and accept His promise to forgive our sin and heal our land?”

“Many people have been asking me about doing something even sooner than 9/11,” stated WND CEO and event organizer Joseph Farah. “The National Day of Prayer is on May 2. I urge participation in that event as a momentum-builder for 9/11. The fact of the matter is we need time to alert believers across America about this important opportunity to humble ourselves before God and ask His forgiveness for our sin.”

WND has also spearheaded a nationwide effort to re-introduce Americans to the Ten Commandments and awaken both believers and non-believers to the evil that abounds in America.

Billboards declaring “Thus Saith the Lord” have been popping up all over the nation, placing on notice first Las Vegas, then Nashville, Jacksonville, Los Angeles and more how to behave according to God’s rules: the Ten Commandments.

Farah is erecting Ten Commandments billboards all over the country, and he said with the help of donations, hundreds of billboards can be placed.

“The purpose is to remind the public of the moral law to which all people are accountable whether they like it or not,” said Farah. “America needs a set of social common denominators if we are to remain a self-governing society. No such document has ever been produced by the hand of man. For 3,000 years, empires have come and gone based on their adherence to the Ten Commandments. Millions of people have perished or been brought to salvation by God’s teachings about right and wrong. That’s what this campaign is all about – and I pray Americans will respond in partnership with me in dramatic style.”

You can support the Ten Commandments Billboard Campaign by with your financial donations in any amount or in helping to sponsor outdoor advertising in your own community.

“The problem is America is not limited to atheists, agnostics, cults and non-believers,” says Farah. “In fact, the biggest problem America has is with those who call themselves believers but who act no differently than the worldliest individuals on the planet. You can call these people backslidden. You can call them false converts. Or you can call them undiscipled, nominal believers. What they all have in common is they are not in obedience to God. They are not even trying to follow the most basic moral law, as Jesus and the prophets all instructed.”

America has never needed a campaign like this so badly, he says.

“The Ten Commandments have been banished from our schools,” says Farah. “They’ve been banished from our courtrooms and law schools. They’ve even been banished from some of our churches and synagogues. Look what has become of America since. Maybe it’s time to roll them out on highways and byways, in big cities and small towns so no one is without excuse as to the moral code the One True God gave us to govern ourselves.”

Farah and WND are providing seed money for the launch and publicity and hope that Jews and Christians alike – all worshipers of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – will donate money to the campaign to erect the messages on public billboards from coast to coast.

“I don’t know what the result will be,” says Farah. “But I know America badly needs a reminder of who guides the universe and the affairs of men and what He requires of us all. Americans need awareness of their sins before they can repent of them. And until we repent of our sins, America’s fate has been cast to the wind. America needs the Ten Commandments.”

You can donate to the campaign online at the WND Superstore or write checks to WND with a notation “Ten Commandments campaign.” Checks can be sent to Inc., 2020 Pennsylvania Ave, N.W., Suite 351, Washington, D.C. 20006.

“If you’re concerned about the future of America, heed God’s word in II Chronicles 7:14,” says Farah: “It says, ‘If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.’ But if we don’t understand our sin, which is defined by the Ten Commandments, how can we turn from our wicked ways? And how will God hear us? And how will He heal our land?”

WND believes the Ten Commandments are the glue that hold society together. If they are forgotten or dismissed or ignored, America will cease forever from being a self-governing nation, as our Founding Fathers intended.

  • “We might come closer to balancing the budget if all of us lived closer to the Commandments and the Golden Rule.” – Ronald Reagan
  • “One of the great questions of philosophy is, do we innately have morality, or do we get it from celestial dictation? A study of the Ten Commandments is a very good way of getting into and resolving that issue.” – Christopher Hitchens (noted atheist)
  • “The Ten Commandments are the divinely revealed law.” – Roy Moore
  • “Congress should pass legislation to remove from the federal courts their jurisdiction to hear these outrageous challenges to the Ten Commandments and the Pledge of Allegiance.” – Phyllis Schlafly
